This City’s Streets
A poem

This city’s streets know my longing all too well I never cease to project on them my hopes Of catching a glimpse of you in this urban hell And see if you freed yourself from your painful ropes
The dimly lit stones amplify my pain Unable to forget the way your words made me feel New avenues carved in our hearts from the icy rain Reminding me that solitude was always part of the deal
I look towards where I believe you like to wander Hoping that my thoughts will reach you A source of comfort for all the mysteries you ponder While you enjoy the endless concrete view
Here’s me wishing you well for old time’s sake Over the rooftops of the world unleashing one more sigh Trusting that this city’s streets will forgive our mistake Of believing we could conquer the endless sky
