This app was about to be bigger than Instagram, but this happened

I know this is a very bold claim to make but I have many reasons to think that this app was about to be really really big. When I was browsing the app store one day looking for some cool apps I stumbled upon this new social media app and it caught my attention because of the features it had and the notion it was putting forward about being an ad and algorithm-free social media platform. They state on their website that their platform is more focused on connection and not addiction.

After seeing this I was convinced to give it a shot and so I did. I downloaded the app and after using it for some time I started to realize some issues with it.

Meanwhile, the public was also sharing some crazy information about the Co-Founder's dark past, and of course, after digging in and actually trying to find out why the app wasn't really doing good as it was supposed to, this is what I found out.

Note: All the information that will be included in this article regarding the app's problems is what I experienced and a couple of reviews I read about the app on the app store while all the other information relating to the founder is what I obtained from sources such as YouTube, Reuters and the internet in general.

Also I would have added pictures to make this article even way better but you know how copyright strikes can be so I am going to stay very far away from that.

What app is this?

The app goes by the name VERO. It was co-founded by Ayman Hariri who is the CEO of the company at the moment. He is known to be a billionaire and is the son of the former late prime minister Rafic Hariri.

Why is the app not doing so well?

1. The Saudi Oger scandal

Ayman Hariri’s father (The father of VERO’s Co-Founder) owned a construction company known as Saudi Oger. After his father passing he took over as the deputy CEO and chairman of the company.

A couple of years later, Saudi Oger was faced with reports of not paying their workers and living them stranded in very bad living quarters. These reports were then later discovered to connect to Ayman Hariri as it was he was the one running it at the moment. This led to most people doubting the platform because of its Co-Founder.

After digging through the internet I found out that there was an update from VERO’s spokesperson stating that Ayman left the company in the year 2013 and that he was not involved in any of the hideous decision making that led to the problems caused by Saudi Oger towards its workers.

NOTE: Please take this information with a grain of salt as I personally don’t have proof about any of this but only information from the internet and of course we know how the internet can be at times.

2. The app was super buggy

After downloading the app myself for the very first time I was bombarded with a bunch of bugs. At times the app would freeze and require me to completely restart my phone or at times I would be navigating the app and some things just didn’t work so I deleted it.

Just 2 days ago I saw that the app had a newer version that was better than the one I had used before deleting the app. I was intrigued so I decided to give it another try. This time I was able to sign up smoothly and gained access to my new account.

The app is pretty smooth at the moment but there are still some bugs here and there. For example, I don't have access to my account now for some reason just hours after signing up so I just contacted the support team and I am waiting to hear from them to get a better insight into this issue

3. The lack of active users

As we all know, social media is a place where you share moments and thoughts with your followers or fans(for those famous out there). But how can you do so if the social media app you are using isn't utilized by most of your close people, followers, or fans?

This is something I saw a lot of people pointing out on the app's app store reviews. Most people were saying that VERO needs to work on properly promoting their app if they really need to be great as they envisioned their app being.

Final Thoughts

At the moment I am waiting for a proper response from VERO’s support team regarding my issue so that I can further explore the app. All I can say at the moment is that the app has great potential beacause of the features it possesses and its differentiation from other social media apps in terms of being ad free and algorithm free.

As soon as my VERO account issue is resolved I will take a deep dive into the app and will publish about its amazing features, its pros and its cons too so stay tune for this.
