This 87 Year Old Singing Coach Was Killed In New York City
She was pushed to the ground
New York City is a place where much talent is cultivated.
Although this woman was 87 years old, she did not expect to die. She was a Broadway singing coach who was still actively engaged even at her age. She must have been healthy enough to be on her own as she was going to attend a performance when she was attacked on March 10, 2022.
It appeared to be a random and senseless act which was unprovoked.
The singing coach had apparently just left her apartment so that she could go to a student’s performance. A 28 year old woman stormed out of a nearby park where she had been eating from a food cart with her fiance.
She encountered the singing coach and shouted obscenities to her for some unknown reason. She crossed the street and shoved the older woman to the ground so that she hit her head. She was taken to the hospital where she died five days later after being taken off life support.
The suspect fled to her family’s home in Long Island and was arrested about two weeks after the attack. She pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and entered a plea deal to serve eight years in prison. The judge added six months to the sentence.
The older woman seems to have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some may say that she was already elderly, but she did not deserve to be violently attacked and suffer such treatment. No one, old or young, should be treated that way. It is an injustice to do so.
