The article emphasizes the importance of planning your day to maximize productivity, suggesting a simple 10-minute evening routine. Everybody wants to achieve more by doing less but few people want to build the systems to achieve that goal.

I was also like that. I used to go to the lab thinking about what experiments I should do today. I used to waste a lot of time thinking about the tasks. I did not have clarity because my day was not planned.

That’s the mistake most people make. They don’t plan their day. They go with the flow and waste the majority of their time.

However, if you want to be productive, you have to utilize your time. Time utilization starts with planning your day.

I have been figuring out the best way to plan my day. Some say that write the 3 important tasks you want to achieve. But this is vague to me. There are no times and deadlines associated with it.

So it’s better to write a time/deadline with your tasks. This is how you should do it:

10 minutes routine to plan your day

  1. Find a quiet place for 10 minutes in the evening where nobody disturbs me.
  2. divide your day into 2-hour blocks from 9 to 5 (9–11, 11–1, 1–3, and 3–5).
  3. Write the most important and difficult tasks in the 9–11 and 1–3 blocks. Make sure you write the tasks that can be completed in 2 hours.
  4. Schedule your meeting in the 1–3 block.
  5. The lower priority tasks can be batched into 3–5 block.

This will only take you 10 minutes but can save you a lot of time during the day since you have already planned your day.

Bonus — When to do it:

You might ask what could be the best time to do it:

“Perform this routing just after finishing your work since you will be in the work mode.”
