Thinking About Death Everyday Helps Me Live My Life to the Fullest

Death is the ultimate giver of perspective

Do you know the problem with the good old days?

You never get to fully enjoy them while they’re happening.

By not seizing the day and valuing each moment, before you know it you’re 90 years old and full of regret for not having done the things you wanted.

That’s not a position I wish for you.

So how can I teach you to value each moment and live your life to the fullest? By reflecting on death everyday.

I get it. It’s a deep and dark thing to think about. But thinking about it will shine a light on the things that matter in life.

What does reflecting on death everyday teach me?

To most, death is some scary horrible thing they wish to delay. To me I think it’s just another part of life. And the closer you look at it the less you fear it and the more you learn from it.

Here’s what i’ve learnt.

  • Never get too comfortable.
  • Know that everything can change in a moment.
  • Life is weird but potentially amazing.

The most important thing I’ve learnt is that life will be exactly what you make it to be. I guarantee you that pretty much 95% of what’s going on in your life you can control. The problem is way too many people waste their lives obsessing over the 5% they can’t.

Incorporating deep thoughts into my daily routine is fairly easy. I don’t read deep books or watch depressing movies. Simply, when I wake up I act as if this is my last day today. I don’t suddenly quit my life and do whatever I want. I just treat each moment a little more special and act a lot nicer to everyone else.

By incorporating the variable of death in your life you get to make the most of each moment.

The 5 year rule .

I ask you, what if you were to die exactly 5 years from now. How about 10? How would your goals change? What impact would you want to have on people? What legacy would you want to leave behind?

By giving you a certain time frame, ask yourself what things would you want to do? What would could you accomplish in 5 years?

Take me for example, say I was to die in 5 years, I’d continue university to make my parents happy. I’d be as kind as possible to every person I’d met. I’d create probably 10x more content everyday and hope to have a huge impact on people like Gary V does.

These are the things that matter to me most. My parents and other’s happiness. Providing value through content, And having a significant impact on people. These are the things I double down on everyday.

Death is the ultimate giver of perspective

I can’t name anything more effective in giving perspective than death. When your upset or getting mad over something little, thinking about death will instantly solve that and show you how unimportant that thing really is.

I repeat over and over in my articles that perspective is a godsend.

Perspective means to look at your life and problems from a macro point of view and to figure out what matters and what doesn’t. Those big things you see from up there, those are things that matter. I truly believe perspective can solve 90% of your mental problems and worries if you constantly have it. And to constantly have it think about things that’ll give you perspective.
