Think about your purpose

Are you here to achieve something?

Think about your purpose

Whenever we attend a meeting, a conference, a dialogue we often forget the very main reason why are we here? This happens because we are usually so obsessed with either to reach the end of the meeting or to give our narrative or to argue against others and to make our point.

This self prophecy to stand-out also brings some costs to it that we unfortunately neglect to see.

Why are we in a hurry to bestow others with “Our drops of wisdom”?

We should try to listen to others and try not to give our version on it immediately, rather we should give it some time to sink in and then think about what we want to say. Remember, we do not always have to find a way to disagree with others.

Are you there to achieve, learn or disprove something?

It’s fine to disagree, it’s fine to push back, it’s great to have strong opinions and arguments, but give other’s ideas some time to set in before you’re sure you want to argue against them

The key is that there exist other views of the world than our world’s view.

It’s not like we have to be first with our views — as if being the first who gives his views meant something, perhaps winning over others. No, Let’s shift towards winning with others, instead of winning over them.

I am not proposing to not to disagree anymore! what I am suggesting is take the following approach

Give some time to the ideas and thoughts of others to settle in, before you are sure you want to give your opinions. Just give it some time to sink in, before you speak out. This would ensure that you will not only have your view but also their views analyzed and would come up with something that is even stronger, or at least it makes sense and resonates with others — — that is winning with them.

You are into the meeting to achieve something and not to argue right, so keep that in focus. It may feel like how guilty we have been to push our thoughts, our intrinsic world view onto others. Do not worry, that is a good starting point to bring improvements to our life — The first step is getting that feeling of being guilty (if it was so), then this would and should bring us to think and understand other’s perspectives before forcing ours onto them.

Think, understand and then reflect

At its outset, it may seem a hard undertaking to absorb, however, over time you will realize that withholding your judgment, and projections from your world before understanding their world is great learning to take with you.

Happy Thinking!!!!
