Things Desirable Women Over Fifty Do That Make Them Unbelievably Attractive
When it comes to your looks, don’t let anyone tell you it’s time to admit defeat

Sixty-one-year-old supermodel Carol Alt said:
“It doesn’t matter what age you are. You can look sexy and feel great, and that doesn’t have to be a gift only for the young. It can be a gift for any age, even the old, whatever that is nowadays.”
And she is truly, genuinely, undeniably right.
For example, there are tons of older women in the public eye who still “have it.”
Think of eye-catching women such as Sandra Bullock, age 57; Jennifer Lopez, age 52; Jennifer Aniston, age 52; and Christie Brinkley, age 67.
Take a good look at these and other “mature” female celebrities before you keep reading.
What makes them sexy?
I’ll tell you.
They take care of their skin
The truth is nothing is more critical to ageless beauty than making skincare a priority.
And while pampering your skin probably won’t make those pesky wrinkles and dark circles around your eyes magically disappear, it can make your face look firmer, brighter, and more even-toned.
So when you hit the stores in search of beauty products, look for some of these research-proven ingredients:
Retin-A (tretinoin)or products containing retinol
Creams or serums containing retinoids are the most important products you need to include in your skincare ritual.
Health quotes Dr. Anna Guanche, dermatologist and skincare doctor of the stars. She explains the extreme effectiveness of products containing Retin-A. She states:
“You’ll be hard-pressed to find a single dermatologist who is not using Retin-A. It’s the most powerful anti-aging topical known to us at this time.”
So, what exactly do retinoids do for your skin?
In an article by Byrdie, dermatologist Dr. Stacy Chimento details all the benefits, stating:
“Retin-A improves the appearance of the skin by helping reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reducing inflammation related to acne, and providing the skin with exfoliation to prompt cell turnover. It can also improve issues with skin texture, tone, and hyperpigmentation.”
In short, there’s no skincare concern that retinoids don’t address.
Retin-A must be prescribed, and it tends to produce quicker, more dramatic improvements, but retinoids can be purchased over the counter. Skincare improvement with retinoids may come more slowly, but the end result is much better skin.
Just know that in the first six weeks or so, you may have initial side effects such as increased dryness and irritation. Also, be sure and wear sunscreen when using retinoids because they can make you more sensitive to the sun.
And if you experience negative side-effects in the beginning, try lessening how frequently you use the products. For example, you may want to begin your regimen by using the product every three days and then slowly build to daily usage.
Retin-A is pricey (around ninety-two dollars a tube), but if you have the money, it’s definitely worth it.
As if you don’t want to spend that much, effective over-the-counter retinoids can be purchased for as cheaply as thirty dollars.
And trust me, these products work.
For example, I’ve used prescription Retin-A for years. As expensive as it may seem, it’s much more cost-effective than purchasing numerous other skincare products that promise but don’t deliver.
Vitamin C
Skincare products containing vitamin C go a long way towards helping you to reclaim the glow the clock is trying to steal. Vitamin C works like retinoids to boost collagen, an important protein that supports skin elasticity. However, it also provides other benefits to keep your skin looking its best.
Very Well Health lists some other ways this vitamin aids aging skin. They state it does the following things:
- makes your skin more evenly toned
- lessens the look of dark spots
- protects your skin from factors that cause premature aging
- promotes quick healing of wounds and scars
Web MD recommends looking for creams or serums that contain L-ascorbic acid, the most potent and well-researched form of vitamin C. They also advise finding products with anywhere between a ten to twenty percent concentration of vitamin C to reap the best results.
Peptides
Peptides are amino acids that can help your skin look firmer and younger. For example, peptides help your body produce more collagen, helping make skin more supple. As New York dermatologist Whitney Bowe states:
“[Collagen provides] volume that keeps skin looking plump and keeps lines at bay.”
Using skincare products containing collagen is especially important for older women because collagen breaks down as you age, making skin look saggy and wrinkled.
Regular use of these skincare ingredients will help stop and even reverse those inevitable signs of getting older, so make sure they’re a staple in your beauty arsenal.
They take care of their hair
In addition to battling to keep our skin looking its best, several not-so-wonderful things start happening to our hair as we get older.
For example, hair growth slows, and hair becomes thinner and more brittle.
But there are some ways to remedy or lessen these issues:
Eat more proteins and get the recommended daily iron requirement.
Web MD cites professor of dermatology Francesca Fusco, who states
“Protein and iron are the two most important things to have in your diet for healthy hair. If your diet is restricted, it can affect hair loss.”
Protein can be found in leafy green vegetables, eggs, and fish, all of which “feed” your hair so that it becomes softer and healthier. If your eating habits do not include these essential “hair care” products, you may even want to take a multi-vitamin.
Condition often.
Nourishing conditioners can add needed moisture to the hair, which will make it both softer and smoother. If your hair is thinning, there are also volumizing conditioners that add needed fullness.
My go-to hair staple?
Coconut oil.
Ipsy explains that this oil is “nature’s hydrating heavyweight.” They also state that “coconut oil helps slow down hair loss by penetrating deep into your hair shaft to prevent protein loss, which in turn prevents breakage.”
One extra tip?
Don’t be afraid to slather your hair in these nourishing oils and conditioners and leave them on for hours or even overnight. You’ll reap double the benefits if you do this once or twice a week.
Avoid frequent use of heated styling tools.
If your hair is already parched and dry, you might want to consider laying off the blow dryer and straightener.
I know, I l know. With frizzy and full hair, I’ve never met a straightener that I didn’t love, but the truth is those straighteners don’t always love me (or you) back.
Discover Good Nutrition explains:
“Human hair contains keratin proteins and hydrogen bonds. When you use heat styling tools, such as curling irons, flat irons, tongs, or blow dryers, they strip your hair of its natural oils and proteins by breaking down its hydrogen bonds.”
And this leads to big-time damage.
If you’re addicted to your curling iron, there are ways to minimize the damage. One way is by purchasing heat-protectant sprays or serums that work to protect brittle strands and keep harm to a minimum.
They take care of their bodies
Taking care of your body doesn’t necessarily mean hitting the gym five times a week or eating salad three times a day.
It means doing little things regularly that add up to a healthier, more toned, more confident you.
Here are a few things to start with.
Eat foods that are good for your body.
Our bodies are gas tanks, and the gas we put in determines how well we look and feel.
For example, many topical skin creams that contain beauty boosters such as vitamin A, C, and antioxidants are also present in many foods.
Cosmopolitan lists some of these foods:
- Yogurt
- broccoli
- red bell peppers
- celery
- kidney beans
- oysters
- carrots
However, these are only a few items that can help make you beautiful from the inside out. Makeup and Beauty has an extensive list detailing exactly which foods to eat to help with your specific beauty concerns.
Add more movement into your day.
Scheduling time for exercise is great, but the most important thing is moving more and sitting less. Being active burns calories to keep your weight in check and stimulates circulation, which adds a healthy glow to dull skin.
Fit and Wellness News even cites dermatologist Audrey Kunin. She explains that exercise can lessen wrinkling by increasing the number of nutrients that reach skin cells. This action aids the production of collagen.
And the good news is that achieving these benefits can be done in many simple, almost effortless ways. Here are a few of them.
- Take a thirty-minute walk during the day. Take in the scenery or listen to an audiobook to make the experience more pleasurable.
- Park further away when going shopping or to different locations.
- Indulge in a favorite hobby such as gardening.
- Do household tasks that keep you up, moving, and burning calories.
- Go window shopping around the mall.
- Engage in play with your pets.
- Take a yoga class.
- Buy a treadmill and walk while watching your favorite shows.
If you do these things, not only will they keep your body in shape, they’ll also likely make you happier and more tranquil. This will decrease stress levels which can harm your looks and your body as a whole.
They break the rules
None of the older beauties I mentioned before follow the rules about how middle-aged women should look. They don’t always wear their hear short, use nude colors in their make-up palette, or dress conservatively.
Instead, they let their own desires dictate their appearance. For example, they may choose to wear their hair long, use brightly colored lipstick, and show a little cleavage or leg in their wardrobe choices.
They may also color their hair or even use cosmetic treatments such as Botox or fillers.
In short, they’re not afraid to do things that make them feel beautiful and confident.
And confidence?
It’s incredibly sexy.
As celebrity actress Gwyneth Paltrow says,
“Beauty to me is about being comfortable in your own skin. That or a kick-ass red lipstick.”
Bottom line?
Screw the “aging gracefully” rules and seek to age daringly instead.
They develop their inner beauty
Actress and host Ellen DeGeneres explains the real backbone of true beauty. She states:
“True beauty is not related to what color your hair is or what color your eyes are. True beauty is about who you are as a human being, your principles, your moral compass.”
No woman is truly beautiful when she is cold, selfish, and insensitive. She may attract someone’s attention at first, but she won’t hold it when the reality of who she really is shines through.
The fact of the matter is that practicing the art of kindness and compassion draws people to you. People want to be around others who make them feel accepted and noticed. They crave the company of those who radiate joy and lend a helping hand when they can.
For example, think of someone you know who possesses these qualities.
I’m betting my bottom dollar that when you think of them, the word “beautiful” is the only thing that comes to mind.
And being a good person?
It’s a goal worth striving for simply because there’s nothing better than adding happiness to a world that is often extremely dark.
The bottom line:
Aging is not a beauty death-sentence.
If you take care of the things that matter, both inside and out, you’ll be amazed at the positive changes that occur.
And that young thing in her mini-dress?
She may just be angry that all eyes are on you instead of her.
