They Are Trying to Kick Me Out of the Medium Partner Program

Ouch, this one hurts. I thought we were friends Medium!

They’re coming for me.

So what do I do? I write a stunning string of words to hopefully save myself from this impending doom.

My case is an interesting one and I think you will benefit from hearing about it so you can avoid it for yourself.

I joined the Medium Partner Program back in May of 2021.

Now, this is important because then, the 100 followers eligibility requirement was not in place.

I joined the partner program and wrote one article. I was new to Medium and wasn’t entirely sure how to go about writing on the platform.

Fast forward to January 1, 2022.

I figured it out. I found my voice and was off to the races. I am currently averaging about 15 articles per month (it’s my second active month) and by my standards, I’m doing pretty good.

I’ve exceeded the minimum monthly payout in my first month of publishing and already almost doubled it this month with half of it still to go. A few of my articles are gaining traction and I believed that I was onto something great!

Until I found out…

They are trying to kick me out of the Medium Partner Program

I was writing a few other articles for my profile when I got the email.

How ironic.

It was from Medium so I aggressively opened up my inbox thinking something great had happened. Could it maybe be another curation? Maybe a little bonus or something?

I wasn’t sure. Until I saw this.

I was shocked, to say the least. Seconds later, I began typing this.

I want to get the word out in case any of you guys were previously in the partner program and were unaware of the fact that they may remove you.

It surely lit a fire underneath me and I’m determined to remain a part of the Medium Partner Program.

Don’t get me Wrong

I love Medium!

They have done so many great things for me.

A few of those include: Providing a space for me to express myself, inspiring me to start a new business, helping me better communicate with my fellow humans, improving my writing ability, boosting my confidence, and more.

I also completely understand they have a business to run. A big one.

Why would they keep writers who are inactive and unmotivated? It just doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint, which I get.

The problem is, they don’t know that I’m serious about this because I only just came back full force. I refuse to give up though.

I am halfway to that 100 followers mark and they gave me until March 2, 2022, until they kick me out. That’s about 2 weeks from now.

I didn’t think I would be able to get to that milestone this month, but now I have to.

It’s not all bad

This forces me to pound the keys even harder. It motivates me to fight for my spot in this program and earn the reward of monetization.

Plus, I think I may be able to get back into the Medium Partner Program when I eventually reach 100 followers. To be honest, that doesn’t even matter.

I’m going to make it.

Another benefit that could come out of this is higher output. Now that I need more interaction, I will deploy my persistence to get there. I try to see this as a good thing rather than a bad one.

Besides, there is only good that can come out of it. If I get to the 100 followers mark, I’ll get more views and readership.

If I don’t? I’ll get more views and readership! See?

This may have just been the best thing that has happened to me so far on Medium!

Although getting curated three times did feel pretty good.

Either way, I do hope to remain in the partner program and maybe they’ll send me an email saying I proved them wrong (they definitely won’t do that). I still enjoy publishing my content and growing as a person and creator.

Final thoughts

It’s so important to remember:

A follower is just a number. Just a set of eyes…

They can be super beneficial to you of course, but it isn’t everything.

As long as we are all growing and continuing to improve our writing abilities, that should be all that matters.

The money is nice and a very cool motivation but again, it isn’t everything.

Our contributions to this platform are what keep it up and running whether you’re Tim Denning or me, Joseph Seifert.

Takeaway: Follow me on Medium!

I will love you forever if you follow me on Medium. I post articles about Personal Finance, Self-improvement, and Writing.

Additionally, I run a publication called The Gentle Art and it’s about all things Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Training the gentle art (Jiu-Jitsu) is what brought me back to Medium in the first place and is something that has legitimately changed my life forever.

Go see if it could change yours!

Thank you so much for your help!
