Making extra money doesn’t always have to be as hard as some people make it out to be. Let’s be real, there are millions of people out there who are making money in their spare time, and you can too. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, so to say you don’t have time is only an excuse that’s going to hold you back.

So where do you start? What are some side hustles you can get started with that can make you an extra $500+ in your spare time?

The good news is that a lot of these ideas don’t require any initial investment or any unique skillsets. As long as you are willing to trade in some of your time for money, you can potentially make a lot of extra money in your spare time.

Here are 10 amazing side hustles you can do in your spare time that can help you make more than $500+ in your spare time.

1. Become a public notary

A public notary is someone who is licensed through their state and serves as a witness for any legal document signings. Basically, a notary ensures there is no fraud taking place when signing legal documents. They make sure both parties are who they say they are, witness the signings, and then stamp the documents letting the state know the document is official.

To become a notary, most states just require you to go through a certification process that usually costs right around $100. Once you become certified, you can easily make anywhere between $1,500 to $2,000 per month as you can set your own fees. Most notaries charge $100 or more per signing.

2. Deliver groceries and food

There are so many food delivery services you can use to make some extra money. There’s Instacart, DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub, or my favorite, Shipt.

I like doing Shipt because it tends to pay more than the other services, and because I’m not driving around as much, and as we all know, gas is SO FREAKING EXPENSIVE right now.

With Shipt, you are getting paid good money to grocery shop for others. Not only will you get a $5 flat fee per order, but you will get 7% of the total cost of the order, as well as any tips from customers.

With Shipt, I am usually making around $30 per hour. I tend to only do 5–10 deliveries on the weekends, but I’m still making around $200 for no more than 10 hours of work.

3. Write stories online

If you don’t want to be a ghostwriter, I would recommend you start writing on Medium. I love Medium, and the fact that you can start making money from just your first article is simply amazing.

Obviously, the amount of money you make depends on a variety of factors such as how many stories you publish, how many people read your stories, how long they read your stories for, etc. There are some months where I’ve made $10 (I wasn’t really active during those months), and other months where I’ve had a story catch the algorithm and have made $2,000.

The only downside with writing on Medium is that it can be somewhat inconsistent. If you aren’t an established writer, there are some months where you can make a ton and other months where you’re barely making anything.

4. Flipping discounted items

Whether it’s going to garage sales, discount stores, or even the clearance sections at your local department store, flipping discounted items can be a great way to make some extra money.

The key here is to buy low and sell high. So, if you buy something on clearance, you can just turn around and flip it on Amazon or eBay for the full price.

Once you become trained on what items in your niche tend to cost, you can even take your skills and do online arbitrage. This is where you buy items on Amazon or eBay and turn around and immediately sell them for a higher price.

5. Start a YouTube channel

Starting a YouTube channel can take some time and a lot of effort to start making a good amount of money, but once you reach that threshold, there’s no telling how much you can make.

In order to become partnered on YouTube and be eligible to make money, you will first need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time. Once you get there, you make money based on how many people watch your videos and the duration they watch them for.

There are a lot of people who have turned their hobby of making videos into a full-time career. With time and effort, maybe you can turn YouTube into your full-time career as well.

6. Sell printables

I am a huge fan of doing work once, never having to worry about it again, and still being able to make a good amount of money.

By selling printables, there is that option.

By selling printables, you can upload a design on Etsy or any other website once, and then you won’t have to worry about it ever again. You won’t have to worry about shipping products out, fulfilling orders, or anything. You can still reach a large population of individuals without ever having to actually interact with them.

Some examples of printables you can sell include pictures, budget templates, planners, habit trackers, meal plans, etc. The possibilities are endless.

7. Teach on online course

My favorite platform to teach online courses is SkillShare. With SkillShare, you can choose a topic you are knowledgeable on, create a class that will help others learn that skill, and then upload it to SkillShare. It’s free to upload a class and you can make a good amount of money by doing so.

Teaching classes online is strictly passive income. You do the work up front, publish your course, and then you never have to worry about it again. I created four classes over a year ago and am still making passive income from them today.

Obviously the more courses you have, the more money you can make, but if you only have one skill you are comfortable teaching, create a class around it. You never know how much you can make from one course.

If you don’t necessarily like SkillShare, you can also explore Udemy, or you can even upload a course to your own website.

8. Rent out your spare space

Believe it or not, you can make pretty good month renting out a corner or your garage, your attic, a closet in your house, or a space you simply aren’t using by using the Neighbor app.

With Neighbor, all you do is select the location of the space you are wanting to rent out (both the address and then where the rental location is at your property), and then list it on Neighbor for a fee.

According to Neighbor, there are some hosts who are making up to $10,000 per year just from renting out extra storage space either at their home, apartment, or storage locker.

9. Part-time online work

In my opinion, the best website to do part-time work is UserTesting. With UserTesting, you are helping large companies improve the experience of their websites by testing the websites and inputting your feedback.

There are jobs on UserTesting that might require 10, 20, or 60 minutes of your time, an all pay pretty well. They also pay within 24 hours of doing the tests, so you don’t have to wait until payday to see that cash.

10. Become a freelancer on Fiverr

Fiverr is one of the most popular websites for freelances, and for good reason. There are very few jobs (gigs) you can’t post on Fiverr.

For example, there are jobs for graphic designers, life coaches, cooking lessons, I even saw some jobs where attorneys were offering their services for a fraction of what you would pay normally.

Seriously, you don’t have to be an expert in order to start making money on Fiverr. You already have so many skills that people would be willing to pay you for. Now, you just need to showcase them and get your name out there.

Let me know if you found this article helpful, or if youfound a side hustle you hadn’t thought about before and think might be a good fit for you.
