Summary

Christina, the author, identifies nine unconventional adversaries that hinder her side hustle, emphasizing the importance of recognizing obstacles as a brand strategy.

Abstract

In an insightful article, Christina outlines her personal and professional nemeses that she perceives as barriers to her side hustle. Drawing inspiration from Evan Kelly's concept that every brand needs an enemy, she lists enemies ranging from the mundane, such as laundry and cat puke, to more abstract foes like time and the monotony of a 9-to-5 job. Christina's piece is a blend of humor and practical advice, encouraging readers to identify their own adversaries to better focus their side hustles. She also promotes her newsletter, which offers daily resources and ideas to enhance online income.

Opinions

  • Christina views the constant accumulation of laundry as a relentless opponent to her productivity.
  • She rejects the notion of non-stop hustling propagated by online gurus, preferring to balance her work with household responsibilities.
  • The idea of going into "monk mode" to complete projects is seen as unrealistic and humorous to Christina, given her life's demands.
  • The confinement of a cubicle is described as her "personal hell," indicating a strong aversion to traditional office environments.
  • Christina cherishes her freedom and dislikes anything that restricts her autonomy, labeling herself a "free spirit."
  • She equates boredom at a job with a waste of time, reinforcing her value for productivity and engagement.
  • Clowns are mentioned as an enemy, though this seems to be a playful addition, possibly not as serious as the other adversaries.
  • Cat puke is humorously cited as a self-explanatory nuisance in her life.
  • Christina invites readers to engage with her content by sharing their own adversaries in the comments, fostering a sense of community and interaction.

These Enemies Will Never Get In the Way of My Side Hustle

I brainstormed and came up with 9 foes:

According to this article by Evan Kelly, every brand needs an enemy.

I brainstormed and came up with 9:

  1. The never-ending pile of laundry.
  2. Time. It goes too fast, and I never want to waste it.
  3. The online gurus who promote non-stop hustling. Hell no. I have Mt. Laundry to attend to. (The only thing I’m hustling is housework.)
  4. The online gurus who tell you to disappear and go into monk mode for several weeks to finish a big project. HA! I wish!
  5. Cubicles. Sitting in a gray cubicle all day is my personal hell.
  6. Anything that ties me down and restricts me. I’m a free spirit!
  7. Being bored at a job. There’s nothing more mind-numbing than watching a clock slowly tick by. This is also a waste of time. See #2.
  8. Clowns. (Thanks for the idea, Vince Mao.)
  9. Cat puke. Need I say more?

Who and what are some of your enemies? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!
