These Arguments Bring Never-Ending Long Debates
What Abortion Arguments Fail To Teach Us

Have you ever thought how can people have 15 or more children? Ever think why others only have one child and why they do not expand their family?
People make decisions on not having children for a ton of reasons. For some it is the lack of a committed partner, lack of finances, they hate the world, or they do not want to bring a child into a corrupt society. For others, they may think that the person they are in a relationship with is not suited to have children with. That was the case of a family member of mines.
There are arguments that brings on long debates. Debates that have been going on for decades. The debates are in regards to the topic of abortion. There have been long winded debates on whether a person should have an abortion. We can learn from these debates and at times we do not learn anything from them.
I will tell you about that family member and how in their situation they felt that an abortion was necessary. There has been a lot of talk about abortions in the news. That talk really escalated after the overturning of Roe versus Wade in 2022. Now I think about all those people that argue “my body my choice” and I also think about the people who debate that life begins at conception. You may have thought of the same. I also think about family members who are impacted by a fellow family member having an abortion.
How does another family member feel about it? How does your grandmother, mom, your dad, your aunt or your uncle fell?
Having a child impacts a family and choosing to end a pregnancy so that a child will not be born impacts a family.
I thought about these things when a family member told me she had an abortion.
I remember I was surprised when she told me.
My family member, who already had a child from a previous relationship, felt as if she should not have a child with this man due to how toxic their relationship was. Her partner at the time had jealousy issues.
There are a lot of arguments about abortions.
Identifying abortion as murder and as a felony is the right thing to do is how some lawmakers look at it.
Now you may already know that a person who is a convicted felon may face possible hardships that include not being able to vote or securing employment.
Now when I think about consequences of getting a felon, I think about my family member. Back when they had their abortion, there was no such thing. At the time, there were no exceptions to get abortion. At the time of the abortion, the family was in a toxic relationship with this person for at least three years. The decision was based on not wanting to bring a child into the world with their partner due to their partner’s behavior.
To give a little bit of background on the case that legalized abortion nationally, we have to go back to the late 1960s. Now back in the 1960s, there was a person who was at the center of a case for abortion. This person’s name is Norma McLorvey, who was referred to as Jane Roe. In 1969, she was pregnant with her third child and desired an abortion at the time. Since she lived in Texas, she could not get an abortion since it was illegal in the state. Her attorneys filed a lawsuit in the US federal court stating that making abortion illegal in Texas was unconstitutional. Since Henry Wade was district attorney at the time, he was the defendant in the case leading to what we know today Roe versus Wade. In 1973, it was ruled that the Texas law was unconstitutional and as a result abortion became legal nationally.
Fast forward nearly 50 years later, the 1973 decision reversed thus overturning Roe versus Wade, which makes most abortions illegally. So, with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, should there not be a law anymore for unborn victims?
When I talk about unborn victims, there is a federal law called The Unborn Victims of Violence Act that states that any person who causes death or injury to an unborn child while committing a crime against the baby’s mother should be charged with committing a crime against two people. And the person will be charged no matter what stage of pregnancy that the mother is in.
It was signed into law in 2004 after it was Scott Peterson was convicted of murdering his wife Laci, who was pregnant with their son, Conner. The Unborn Victims of Violence Act is also called the Laci and Conner law.
Could we view this law the same as abortion laws?
I know people have different ways they view abortion. For some, if you ban abortion, you are taking the rights away from women.
From my perspective, I believe that there should be abortion exceptions as there are states that have this such in cases of incest, rape and running the risk of jeopardizing the life of the mother. Now I do not agree with having an abortion as a means of birth control. There are people that have multiple abortions.
Of course, there are people that will say you can give the child up for adoption.
I have heard of people having regrets getting an abortion. Some women may have post-traumatic stress disorder. Abortion debates does not talk about that.
In that case, post-traumatic stress disorder is just not reserved for the military.
For other women, abortion is definitely what they feel is the right option for them.
At times, with abortion debates we are not taught to see other angles.
In conclusion, those that are against abortion may learn things about people who are for abortion and the debates may not be so polarizing.
