These Are the Worst Headlines I’ve Ever Seen

Are you making this mistake?

I asked ChatGPT to generate headlines for one of my recent articles to demonstrate one thing: how crappy ChatGPT headlines are.

There’s a pretty recognizable pattern here.

(Figurative Language) : (A Pretty Okay Headline)

For example, the second half of #1 is a solid headline. It could be much, much better, but it does the job. It gets completely ruined by the first half. I don’t know why AI likes to summarize your article twice on either side of a colon. I also don’t know why it thinks every headline needs an alliteration, simile, metaphor, or platitude.

These headlines are my pet peeves. If I see an article with an AI headline, I will not click it. It’s as simple as that.

If you use AI for your headline — the most important part of your article — how am I supposed to trust the rest of your article is human-generated?

I can’t.

By using an AI title, you give me every reason not to click on your article.

Without a doubt, these ChatGPT headlines are the worst headlines on Medium. Stop using them — literally any other headline would be better.
