These Are the Authors I Admire Most

A writer never has a vacation. For a writer, life consists of either writing or thinking about writing.

When I joined Medium, I told myself I would approach it differently from other platforms I belonged to. Specifically, it would not be like Twitter and the follow-for-follow culture. There was just something about that habit that was disingenuous.

Anyway, after spending a relatively calm 16 months on Medium, these days, there are certain writers I can’t escape. On a day when I can afford to wander off real life, I come to Medium and their pieces greet me. So far, they hardly ever bore me. They offer interesting perspectives and are consistent.

Jessica Wildfire: I am not sure how I stumbled on Jessica. I like politics; movies, good write-ups, and skits. In her write-ups, Jessica addresses world politics and issues on social justice and socio-economics. She is feisty and shows no mercy with words. If I feel like I have a deficit on current affairs, I hover off to her page and literally take lessons. Sometimes, I am so impressed by an article; I share it on social media. I always get mixed reactions. There are those who agree with her and others who think she is an extremist. I think a good writer evokes emotions.

Tim Denning: It’s tough to miss Tim. I discovered him without effort. Tim is a generous soul and I do not think I am the only one who has noticed this in his articles. I come to Tim for lessons in finance and cryptocurrency. I have always been interested in finance and cannot seem to get enough. As for cryptocurrency, I see it as football. You might not like it, but it’s everywhere. You have got to take a lesson. I am a newbie as far as the whole thing is concerned and have my belts strapped in for many lessons. Tim writes articles on life lessons as well. Sometimes, there is a profound lesson to take home.

Sean Kernan: I think I first discovered Sean on a Medium Facebook group. He had this habit of doing daily posts of Medium articles. Now, I am not an ardent reader of Sean’s work. Time would not let me, plus I am not a huge fan of history. Sean writes on life lessons, self-development, social/ everyday issues, history, politics, and what I call rare topics. My favorites are the life lessons/ self-development and everyday issues. I like his perspective. He is also one of those writers that shows that writing is a craft that ought to be taken seriously. If you want to put it out there, do your research.

Ayodeji Awosika: My first encounter with Ayo wasn’t a good one. Someone had called him out on social media for being proud. My second encounter was different. A writer I follow did a short highlight on him. So I hovered over to his page and did some reading. Ayo offers value. As the algorithm would have it, some of his articles ended up on my newsfeed, and when time permits, I learn something new.

Finally…

I follow over 60 writers on Medium. Outside these four, I have met people who write really good stuff. However, when I am pressed for time, the articles of these four do not successfully get past me. If I can’t read them one day, I’ll come back to them some other time. Thanks to Ravyne Hawke.
