These 3 Small Errors Almost Ruined Me as a Writer

Small mistakes can lead to a disaster. I want to share what you should NOT do so you don’t make the same errors…

DALL-E 3

It took me an entire month to understand what I was doing wrong…

First error:

Not replying to the comments under my articles.

I didn’t reply simply because I thought clapping was enough to tell the reader that I appreciated their feedback, but it wasn’t.

By replying to comments, you not only boost your story since the algorithm promotes stories with high engagement, but you also build a community.

Building a community is necessary here on Medium to have constant readers.

If your readers who comment receive a response from you, they will comment again on your articles, and you will have a community of followers who read and interact with every article of yours.

Now that I have learned this lesson, I will always respond to every single comment (at least I will try).

So go ahead and ask me any question you may have in the comment section of this article.

Second error:

Caring too much about reads and engagement.

Let’s be honest, everyone hopes that their article gets a lot of reads, claps, and comments to earn more money.

But the truth is that you should focus on whether people really found the content valuable or not.

Anyone could create clickbait content and generate a lot of reads, but in the long term, you will fail. As mentioned in the first error, every Medium writer should focus on building a community and having recurrent readers instead of always new readers, so you will have constant reads and linear growth.

Third error:

Waiting too much and overthinking about publishing.

I always waited for hours before being sure about publishing, but the truth is that your article/story will never be perfect. There is no way to be 100% sure that the readers will like your content.

The best thing you can do is to ask for feedback so you can improve and write better content day by day.

So the next time you are thinking about whether to publish the story or not…

Just publish it.

These were the worst errors I made as a Medium writer. Let me know in the comments whether you found this article valuable and if you make these errors too. Also, share your experience and some errors that you make so we can improve together.
