There’s No Business Like Snow Business
World Snow Sculpting Championship now being held in Stillwater MN — Jan 17th-21st.
The third annual event — a snow-filled extravaganza — happens nowhere else but in my home state of MinneSNOWta. The idea was spawned as a result of the business slowdown that occurred during Covid-19. Stillwater — a haven for the arts — seemed like a perfect fit for a snow sculpting event. Upon further investigation, the concerned citizenry learned about Winter Fun LLC, a snow sculpting organization. They were searching for the right host for a World Competition and found Stillwater to be the perfect spot for the inaugural event!
The contest features teams from all over the world. 12 Teams compete this year for the $10,000 prize including:
Team Mexican Snow Wales-UK, Team UK/Wales and the West Country Canada, Team Taniwah France, Team Atlanteans Florida, Team Flozen Ecuador, Team Family Mexico, Team Colima Minnesota, Team House of Thune Turkey, Team Izmit Canada QC, Team Fjordwitches North Dakota, Team North Dakota Finland, Team Funland
Talk about making something out of nothing. Make some snowballs and collect 10 G’s. That’s magic!

Temperatures currently range from a low of 1 degree to a high of 13 today, and will drop into minus territory in the next couple of days. When you add a windchill factor — it’s a cold-weather pastime for only the hardiest of souls. Imagine how many gallons of hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate, mulled wine and such they might go through to accomplish this task.
The event is open free to the public and family friendly with activities for the kids. At the top of the hour at 6,7, and 8PM will be a fire show by Funtime Funktions.
