There’s a World Much Bigger

Some of us need to step out more

There’s a world out there Of working men and women Too busy to pay attention To the politics peddled on social media

There’s a world out there Completely unknowing To the absurdities and falsehoods And the hate propagated On a Twitter or a Facebook

Not a critic on these platforms, But anyone who’s been remotely involved in engaging with politics on social media would understand. The ridicule involved, The hateful and ignorant ideas promoted, And absolute nonsensical nature of it.

Sometimes when we’re on these platforms We get lost with the madness And believe these ideas are the common beliefs held by the masses But in truth most people aren’t even on twitter And there’s a world much bigger

Where hate is unpopular And bigotry is unwelcome

If we restrict ourselves to what we see on our cellphone screens We’ll inevitably be mislead And think the world is dark and cruel

Some of us need to step out more On the streets, there’s love and solidarity Exhibited in different colors From people from all over
