There’s a Problem with Overwatch 2
No One Is Playing the Support Class

In multiple of my previous posts, I have spoken a lot about Overwatch 2 and how excited I was about its release. But now, after over a month of its release, we’ve come across a big problem.
It seems that most of the player base refuses to queue as a support hero and would prefer to queue as damage or a tank.
I’m assuming this is because it can be a huge headache to take care of two damaged players who keep moving around and a tank who seems to always be on the other side of the map.
It also doesn't help when the other support player decides all they want to do is deal as much damage as they can without worrying about the health of their team.
Just by looking at the queue time estimate while choosing a class, you can see how unpopular the support class is. As a tank or damage, you’d be looking at a 10–20 minute wait, while support is usually only a 1-minute wait.
Fortunately, Blizzard has acknowledged this issue in a blog post. Executive producer Jared Neuss stated the following.
“With the move to 5v5, we’re seeing longer queue times than we’d like for both tank and damage players … While there’s no silver bullet for this issue, the team has a LOT of ideas that we want to experiment with for the upcoming seasons.”
In the first Overwatch game, there was actually an incentive to play as an unpopular class. You’d be rewarded with loot crates or in-game currency just for playing as support.
But now in Overwatch 2, the only reward players receive is 100 battle pass XP, which is only 1% of a level.
Neuss stated the following.
They are “discussing targeted support hero reworks, game system updates, and even some role-wide changes to improve support quality of life.”
Currently, there is no information on precisely what changes will be coming in order to resolve this issue, but Neuss says that when they come up with some ideas, they will be communicating with the player base.
