There’s a New Seneca in Town

Stoicism is back!

When I turned eighteen, I received three books from my grandmother, and fifty-two years later, when my grandson came of age, I passed them on.

I gifted him my original copies of Seneca: Letters from a Stoic, translated by Richard Mott Gummere. He didn’t acknowledge it (neither did I back then), but it was the best gift he had (and would) ever receive.

The three volumes, still in good shape after years of reading and re-reading the 124 letters, came with my notes.

I’m proud to say my grandson analyzed them and even looked for other interpretations and modern takes on the stoic teachings.

He recently shared the work of James Bellerjeau, creator of a publication called “A Little Stoic Wisdom.” I highly recommend it.
