There was more to the Librarian…

Geraldine the school librarian was busy looking for a textbook. Geraldine was the best Librarian ever. A student from the school happened to have asked for it. Geraldine, as usual, did not put on a sour face as many school librarians did. Geraldine Pinheiro always had a smile on her face, and she did things gracefully, and with a smile on her face.

Geraldine did not mind looking for books at all when students asked for them. In fact, she enjoyed doing it, and being a librarian for Sunshine High School was really very interesting to her.

Geraldine Pinheiro was supposedly the kindest librarian you ever met by far. It was rumored among many of the school students that she was going to leave her work as a librarian and do some work-from-home job which was by far easier. This was not true coincidentally, since Geraldine loved her job!

Geraldine Pinheiro was an attractive woman under those huge glasses. While she otherwise did her work with a sense of calm and she thought that her big but trendy glasses suited her librarian attire.

Beneath the stoic appearance that she put on, and the apparent over-eagerness she displayed at work, personally Geraldine was ‘totally different’. Geraldine Pinheiro did things at home that were beyond her. Perhaps she was a little bit of an introvert.

She loved cleaning her apartment and taking care of her plants and cat. There was something she did differently from others — she loved reading thriller novels, books that took more than a while for others to read, and books that made other simpler people confused.

Books like that made her heart skip a beat, but she liked the feeling. She could read huge novels of that sort in less than a day or two. Even if the book wasn’t as addictive, she was still hooked on finding out the conclusive ending of the book and the main character’s destiny.

Little did Geraldine realize what a nerd she was. Her habits were indeed a little nerdy as well. She always chose to eat minimally, dress simply, and think only about minimalist but manageable goals and dreams.

One day when Geraldine was looking out the window at the nighttime sky, she felt like counting the stars. It made her imagine something wonderful. What if she decided to write a book herself? A book… so she would also be an author, who captivated people with their writing?

Geraldine slept comfortably that night. In the morning when she woke up, made breakfast, and bathed longer than usual. After that, she got back into her simple librarian clothes and wore her minimalist but stylish librarian glasses.

She sat in her usual place when she arrived at the Library exactly on time. She was now Geraldine the librarian again. Geraldine Pinheiro never had an idle moment. She knew that other than just looking busy for her superior, she had to also perform her duties as a librarian. She also consciously tried to be the nicest librarian alive, so that both students and teachers would take a liking to her. Geraldine was all about keeping up appearances.

Geraldine was busy indulging in her tea-time snack when she realized that a student was looking at her over the counter for more than a while. The student was obviously miffed- She didn’t realize that the girl student who was also a 7th grader had been standing there for more than a couple of minutes.

The student wanted to return a book she had borrowed. Geraldine Pinheiro suddenly realized this and duly typed out the details of the book being returned on the School Library’s laptop. She couldn’t help but feel curious about the book’s beautiful cover design and tempting title. Soon the book was back in its assigned location.

Since Geraldine loved reading herself, she borrowed it from the library for herself. The book happened to be a collection of Old World poems, was making her curious to know its contents. She hardly realized that she was engrossed in reading the prologue, and the other details of the book and that it was already time to leave. School was out at 1:30 p.m. and she didn’t even hear the bell.

Geraldine picked up her handbag after ensuring that everything was in order, and got ready to leave the library premises. She took the book home. The book seemed exciting; she was determined to finish reading it by the morning of the next day.

Since the pen name was androgynous there was no way that anyone would ever learn of the real author of the book. There was no way that anyone would ever find out that the simplistic Librarian could write at all.
