Is Reality Real?

There It Is Again

Poetry about a woman and the cat that loved her

Foreground image: adogslifephoto — stock.adobe.com / background image: phpetrunina14 — stock.adobe.com ghost combination by Toni Crowe

I lay between sleep and wake There it is again The feeling of a warm, soft cat nuzzling my neck The way my cat, Big Boy, did He crossed to permanent sleep years ago I know the cat is not here Is he?

He snuggled me during my ambitious 60-hour weeks When I was bone tired but could not sleep Here we are again I’m exhausted from long days away from home And cannot sleep I know the cat is not here Is he?

I feel his soft cat breath on my neck Gentle purring in my ear He is here again I feel the weight of my eternal cat And go to sleep I know the cat is not here Is he?
