In every career, there is a starting point. Writing is no different whether you consider it a career or just a hobby.

In the beginning, it is inevitable for you to be called a beginner or novice when you produce your first few posts.

I see nothing wrong to be a novice in writing because it is the basic where every great writer passed by when he/she was heading to the top.

So congratulations, I want you to feel proud of being a novice now. Why? Simply because you are heading in the right direction.

A chance to improve

When you are a novice in writing, you have all the spaces you need to improve while nobody can hold you accountable for your writing errors except yourself.

You also have the chance to make all kinds of mistakes that will ultimately turn you into a more experienced writer.

One day you might even establish yourself to be a published author whose books help improve the lives of millions of people around the globe.

Taking the free advice Fortunately, there are tons of free advice for us out there as new writers, especially in Medium.

Sometimes you get confused about which one to follow, while the majority tell you something very similar, reasonable, and positive. In the end, it’s you who will eventually decide which advice suits you best in your current situation and follow it.

Here again, there is nothing wrong with listening to the advice of those who are already ahead of you in the game.

In fact, most of this advice is useful in a way or another in my view. This is how writers usually help each other here on this platform.

So, until you reach the level in which you can also give out advice for free, I suggest for you to be humble and take whatever beneficial advice is on the table to advance your writing career.

Benefits of writing Being a writer is enjoyable and at the same time challenging especially if you are a beginner.

The ability to crack your mind in order to produce something useful is really amazing.

Writing makes you feel happy because you have created content that is useful. A content that is meant to help and improve the lives of your fellow mankind.

Writing also teaches you many things that are very essential to your day to day living, such as consistency and discipline.

Without these attributes, I don’t think you will make it in writing or any other profession.

You need to be passionate There are many top writers in Medium. Some are even well-known authors, therefore, it’s a great opportunity for you as a new writer to gain experience from their writings by constantly reading their articles and then add the experience you gain with time as you write more.

But there is a catch here. You just don’t take their experiences only, but you must also take their passion along with you.

Passion is the driving force behind most of the writers I know especially here in ILLUMINATION and in Medium generally.

Final thoughts If you have written and published your first few posts, I want to congratulate you because the beginnings are usually the hard ones for many, the rest will become easy once you start writing on consistent bases.

By the way, once you reach a certain level, you will no longer be called a novice or beginner in that case.

Personally, I have written few articles so far in Medium, I admit that I am not an expert in writing yet to advise anyone, but I felt necessary to encourage you, myself, and everyone who wants to write in the future.

Thank you for your precious time.
