Summary

The author argues that the traditional path to success, as taught by previous generations, is no longer viable in the current world, necessitating a personal journey without a predetermined map.

Abstract

The article reflects on the conventional narrative of success, which includes education, employment, and hard work, as a guaranteed route to prosperity. The author recounts how this narrative is reinforced by family and societal examples during childhood. However, upon reaching adulthood, the author realized that the world had changed, making the once reliable path to success obsolete. The new reality requires individuals to forge their own paths, adapt to constant change, and face the uncertainty of life without the security of past models. The article suggests that the inability to adapt to these changes has led to widespread frustration and anger, exemplified by support for figures like Trump, as people struggle to reconcile their expectations with the evolving economic and social landscape.

There Is No Paved Way To Success!

Authoritarians And Parents Have Lied To You.

Growing up, I remember being told that if I study, go to college, get a job, and work hard, I will achieve success. Our young minds would begin to paint a picture of ourselves when we are older, having a great career, making lots of money, and the like. The school system continues feeding you this idea and soon you begin to believe it wholeheartedly.

Your parents tell you the same thing! You notice two vehicles on the Driveway, a nice-looking home, both Parents have successful careers or if you are really lucky you have one Parent who works while the other stays home to raise you. Trips every year and the like.

You look around and begin to believe the illusion and you can’t wait to grow up and live this great life you have on your own steam. Then as time passes, you grow up and get closer to adulthood, until one day you are an adult and start to make your way down the path your grandparents and parents took, not realizing that the world has changed while you were not paying attention. As you go down that paved road to success you start to see the skeletons of old ideas scattered about. You stop to look at the remains and start to feel that something is wrong. As you continue your path it becomes darker as the sun starts to be replaced by dark menacing clouds.

You start to realize something that you were not prepared to hear, none of us were, that all those things you were told and saw no longer work in your world! The house you want, the two vehicles in the driveway, going on trips etc., the things that grown-ups did when we were young we cannot due. It’s become out of reach for many of us.

We have to make a decision when we wake up from that dream. A decision which is scary because we are so unprepared for it. We will have to pave our own way! No map, no planning, having no clue if this road will lead somewhere or not. This is a scary monster we need to look at and fight.

I think this is one of the many reasons why so many people support Trump. They believed in that path of success, and when it was their turn they quickly found out it was not what they thought, and now they are angry. Many thought that they could just hop into a good-paying job with very few skills, they were not counting on having to compete for those types of jobs with others here as well as overseas. It starts to become rough as the realization becomes more and more clearer.

For the rest of us, who were fed that propaganda saw it for what it was and we believed it somewhat, maybe we had other authority figures who showed us what was really going on behind the illusion. Maybe it was the books we were exposed to, which is why banning books is a bad idea, which prepared us and made us understand that life is a constant change of ideas, opinions and the like. Personally, when it was my time to become an adult I already knew what to expect when I was no longer part of the education machine. I knew that the path my parents took would not work for me as I have been watching, reading, and listening to what the adults spoke about around my parents' kitchen table. I quietly sat and listened to them talk about things, I was grateful that my parents were liberal enough to let me be part of the conversation. I took heed and learned from their experiences.

By doing this, I kind of knew what to expect when it was my time. The world is a cold place and it doesn’t care who you are, what you are and what you think are entitled to. So I made changes when it was my time, I decided that I had to make my own way and that there is no guarantee about anything in this life.

And I think this is the reason why so many people are angry to the point that they will allow themselves to follow a psychopath to oblivion! Make no mistake about it, we are heading to an uncomfortable time in this country because we have allowed ourselves to continue to want to live the illusion that has been fed to us by those who came before us. We refuse to adapt to the incoming storm which is why we are going through this time of chaos and uncertainty.

In the end, we will have to let go of the things that have taught us back when we were coming up. We have to relearn the new ways and or adapt. If we do not do this soon, the world will force us to change whether we like it or not. The reality we were taught was never real and once you realize that you no longer need others, you will realize that now you are master of your destiny and are truly free.
