Focusing on JOY is a great way to begin the day!

What’s a small joy that fills your soul with delight? Gratitude — Feeling grateful for the smallest thing in your life can bring you joy. You are checking out at the grocery store and your bill is $40.01. You hand the clerk two $20 and a penny you found in your pocket. You smile because you won’t be given $.99 in change. That penny made a big difference!

What’s a large joy that swells your heart with love? My family is the center of my joy. I have three grown children who continue to show me what love is all about. It could be something as simple as my daughter sending me a text on my phone. Perhaps, it is my son sharing his most recent video he created. This is my favorite! They are my ‘go to crew’ when I am tackling a challenging project.

My family minus my youngest who lives out of state

What’s one way you can spread joy with others? Growing the nonprofit organization, Volunteer Nebraska is how I spread joy with others. Encouraging children to find ways to make a difference in their communities multiplies joy in immeasurable ways. An act of kindness brings joy to the person who performs the act. Joy is felt by the one who receives the act. Witnessing the act only magnifies the numbers.

This year we are inviting preschools and daycare centers to adopt senior living spaces. We are encouraging kids to create art and share it with local nursing homes. We want to make our seniors smile!

Addressing these three questions warmed my heart! What if inviting other writers to take on the challenge could do the same. We’ll never know until we try!
