Motherhood
There is a bigger threat than ‘climate change’, that’s looming over the world!
What are we fighting for? What will remain of the world, if the human population dips? Who are we saving the climate for?
The systemic transformation of the world, into a capitalist state
We enrolled our baby into a daycare center near our home, that was now handling our son, along with the sons and daughters of a few other neighborhood parents. While the parents of those babies could focus on work and other stuff.
It is truly said that it needs a village to raise a child. Just the parents, or even the immediate family are not enough.
And the modern capitalist world, left no stone unturned to make sure that the village was destroyed, and instead, a capitalist, profit-seeking system was introduced in place of it.
For daycare alone, in the Netherlands, the average cost is around €1000 per month, that too just for 2 days in a week. Add more days, and the cost goes up. In big cities such as Amsterdam, couples pay as much as €2000 per month for 4 days in a week for one child.
It might sound crazy because where I come from (India), the daycare system is still not as common or established there.
Families are used to raising children in a close-knit community, where the baby is not only from the elders but also from other children around.
The children are introduced to play schools only at the age of 2.5 or older, while in the Netherlands, people can enroll their babies into daycares as early as 12 weeks old!
The daycares might be professional, clean, or even loving, but they can never equate to a mother’s love or concern for her child. They still have one teacher per 4 or 5 children of the same age — how can they attend to every single baby with the same compassion or care?
I often come across a lot of YouTube channels where women have resorted to home-schooling their children and becoming stay-at-home mothers (SAHM). Many of them are women who left their established corporate careers and chose a quieter life instead.
They enjoy their slow mornings, cook fresh, hot meals every day, and care for their homes. They further state that it gives them purpose and satisfaction at the end of the day, and they’re no longer as restless or anxious as they were before, while they worked.
It might not be true for everyone, however, it does showcase a universal truth, that motherhood comes at the expense of the sacrifice of a family.
Even though we might have become much better economically as a modern world, and we have gadgets and technology that never existed before — but even then, we lack a solid infrastructure that allows working mothers to take time off, to care for children.
Children are the future taxpayers, yet a majority governments of the world pay no attention to their wellbeing.
Even as an investment, there are only a few European countries that give good social benefits to new mothers and young babies.
Capitalism rules the world. Governments do not run countries, money runs governments.
We live in a cruel world, where the USA, being one of the most advanced and developed nations of the world, has little to no support for mothers, babies, and new families. People can’t afford children anymore, and it’s only a matter of time before countries will become like Japan or Korea.
In Japan, and South Korea both — the birth rate has declined to an all-time low. People are simply unwilling to have children because they don’t see the point of it all.
They can’t afford to live on a single income, and for the mother to work and earn, they have to put their baby into a daycare which is almost as expensive as the mother’s salary!
The birth rate of these two countries has declined so much, that experts say that young populations in these countries will decline by more than 50%. Fifty!
Japan, on the other hand, has an existential threat — the country might cease to exist by the year 2100, because of a steep population decline. Even if it exists, or survives, there will be stagnation that will stop the country’s progress into the future.
Imagine losing an entire cultural community, an entire different world, only because the government fails to mend things when the time remains.
If this is not an ALARM BELL for the rest of the countries in the world, I don’t know what else is. It won’t be too late that other countries might also follow suit.
20 countries are expected to have an existential crisis by 2050, and that includes a lot of European countries as well.
This should (by now), force governments across the world to act in a manner that saves future generations.
No doubt, we have pledged billions of dollars to save the climate and to build infrastructure that helps prevent climate change from happening. But what are we doing to save our population?
What are we doing to empower young mothers? How are we helping and supporting new families?
The world is so indifferent and emotionless for new parents that most of them have to fend for themselves. After becoming a mother, I understood how hard it must be for single parents to manage everything on their own.
It is high time, that we as a developed and intelligent race, do something about this — more than focusing on climate change or any other environmental issue for God’s sake!
After all, who are we saving the climate for, if people are not mentally sane to reap the benefits out of it? Who are we saving the climate for, if our generations won’t be there to see the beautiful world we live in?
