There Is a Big Bug with Overwatch 2 Hero Tracer, But It Seems Blizzard Isn’t Too Worried About It.
If you’ve played Overwatch in the past, you’d know that Tracer is a bit of a squishy hero. She can be hard to play since she doesn't have too much health, and large damage drops off the further away she is from an enemy.
Because of these downsides, I generally don’t use Tracer if I'm playing as a damage dealer, and I would usually stick to heroes such as Sojourn or Reaper.
But recently, as I was scrolling through Reddit, I came across a post in the Overwatch subreddit with “Huge bug!” in the title.
Apparently, there is currently a bug with Tracer in which if you’re precisely below the 20-meter mark, there is almost no damage drop-off. I haven't been able to test this out for myself, but I found a demonstration in the following video.
As you can imagine, this bug gives Tracer players a massive advantage since they no longer have to be in close proximity to an enemy to deal a bunch of damage.
The post I came across had a comment by game director Aaron Keller below it. He stated the following.
“this has seemingly been in the game for the last few builds(we just verified it in the Halloween patch), and while the sharp damage drop off for Tracer is definitely a bug, her overall power level has been ok. We are not planning to disable Tracer”
Many players in the community were worried that Blizzard might pull Tracer off the roster as they did with Mei, Torbjorn, and Bastion. For whatever reason, Blizzard disabled these heroes for way longer than what seemed necessary.
But on the contrary, according to Keller, Blizzard won’t be immediately disabling Tracer since “her overall power level has been ok.” To be fair, before this bug, players like myself would not even glance in Tracer's direction due to the difficulty of playing such a squishy, close-combat hero.
The community is evenly divided between players who believe the bug should be fixed immediately and players who believe this bug helped balance Tracer as a viable hero.
I don’t really have a proper opinion about the matter since I rarely used the hero, to begin with, but if Blizzard is actually considering reworking Tracer off the properties of this bug, I guess I'm all for it.
I just hope for the sake of Tracer mains, Blizzard doesn't disable her for too long if they do decide to forgo whatever rebalance changes they deem necessary.
