There Are Words You Can’t Take Back

There are words there are words you there are words you can’t there are words you can’t take there are words you can’t take back there are words that break there are words — words there are.

But there are words I can recognize as part of your tape recorder that playback unraveling reel to reel bunching up twisting and turning until it comes undone and the cassette tape is useless.

I chucked out that walkman the one that used to come prerecorded with all of your words that floated around my head like headphones.

Instead, I walk in a dead zone of peace from your words and now when they ping or ring they don’t quite sting because I know what they mean and they’re not meant for me.

There are words there are words you there are words you can’t there are words you can’t take there are words you can’t take back there are words that break there are words — words there are.
