There Are Only 2 Ways to View Anything

Only one perspective will help you get to where you want to go

Instead of complaining the rose bush is full of thorns, be happy the thorn bush has roses.” Proverb

After my divorce, I didn’t know what the point of life was anymore.

Without question, divorce was one of the excruciating and soul-crushing experiences I experienced.

In my early 30’s, I thought my life was over.

Coming from a culture that wasn’t familiar with divorce and having had my self-worth beat up my entire life, I seriously questioned the meaning of life.

At that time, I believed that divorce was the absolute worst thing that could happen to a person. I was sure that the universe hated me, and life was out to get me.

I lost my partner, and I lost the house we owned together, the life we built together, and my place in the world. I lost her family with the divorce and seriously rocked my family’s world, becoming the first divorcee in our family.

I moved out of the state we were living in together, gave up the job that I was working in, and eventually gave up the legal career that I was building. Life just didn’t make sense anymore to me, and all parts of my life came tumbling down.

Nearly a decade later, I am singing a much different tune.

I now believe that divorce was the absolute best thing that ever happened in my life.

Today, I moved to Asia from the United States and living the nomad lifestyle.

Much of my extended family lives in this part of the world, and I get to spend more time with them. I have traveled to and now live in all the places that I’ve wanted to live for years of my life.

I regularly get to visit temples and spiritual places on this side of the world.

No longer employed, I work for myself as a self-published author, blogger, course-creator, and coach.

I met someone wonderful, and it looks like we were made for each other.

We could have only met by me moving to this side of the world, and our meeting was under the most unusual of circumstances due to travel and a miraculous encounter.

I am living the exact life that I want and doing everything I want every day.

I am living my purpose, following my passion, and serving others to my maximum capacity.

Life seems brighter than ever, and I feel like this life is a dream.

I am beyond grateful for the divorce because it led me on a path that led me to writing about, learning about and getting better at relationships.

My ex-wife was my first relationship, and honestly, I had no idea what I was doing. I committed every relationship mistake you could have imagined. No longer. I am the most empathetic and hard-working partner you can imagine. I actively work on a relationship as opposed to taking it for granted.

My life’s hardest experience has led to my learning one of the most important life lessons I could learn.

When my life’s absolute worst experience has transformed into it’s best, I figured something out that I think it will help you too.

There are only two ways to view life: act like everything is working against you or act like everything in your life is working in your favor.

I used to believe the former. Life was against me. My ex was against me. The Gods and the universe were against me. Being Indian, even my karma was against me.

Now, I realize those thoughts aren’t real.

Every letdown, heartbreak, pain, and tear was the seed for delivering the dream life that I could have never imagined living.

I am so grateful and happy today about the life that I have now.

This life only started to take shape when the previous one fell apart completely, and I hit a complete rock bottom.

What is your greatest life challenge right now?

What are the problems you’re facing?

Whatever it is, I want you to ask yourself a few questions about it.

What is the good in this situation?

How does your life benefit in this situation?

What is the positive side of this situation?

What is the takeaway or learning in this situation?

And finally, how is this situation working in your favor?

Don’t get caught up in the roadblocks, problems, and challenges that life throws at you.

Don’t focus on the problem or cry about the unfairness of life. Don’t view the setbacks as permanent conditions.

Instead, focus on the life you want to have and view every problem and challenge as a gift that helps you get to where you want to go.

As Paulo Coelho, author of the Alchemist has said,

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

Remember, there are only two ways to view every life event. You can go about it like life is out to get you, or you can go about it like life is out to help you get to where you want to go.

You can view your problems and challenges as a mortuary for your dreams or motivation for your dreams.

Just remember, at the end of the day, you have the power of choosing which perspective to adopt and which path to take.

One will lead to a roadblock, the other to your destination.

What has been one of your greatest struggles you faced? How did shifting your perspective change how you handled it?
