The United States is seen as a land of opportunities, not only for Americans but for immigrants as well. As it is known that immigrants migrate to the U.S. in search of a better future. Ever since the 1880’s the US has experience major waves of immigration, they came to America seeking greater economic opportunity, while some, such as the Pilgrims in the early 1600's, arrived in search of religious freedom.

The United States has a larger immigrant population than any other country, with 47 million immigrants as of 2015. This represents 19.1% of the 244 million international migrants worldwide, and 14.4% of the U.S. population.

Sadly for many of these immigrants, the dream of having a better future for them and their families becomes a nightmare, and that is because many of them decide to immigrate illegally.

Estimates of the number of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. range from 10.5 million to 12 million, or approximately 3.2%–3.6% of the population.

After an illegal immigrant is found in the United States, they are sent to prisons or camps across the country. kids, families, women, pregnant mothers, and anyone else who has been caught by the immigration patrol end up in one of them. Then they are forced into overcrowded encampments and dangerous border towns, with no food or any type of resources and no access to a lawyer.

Together, both President Obama and President Trump have deported about 2 million people from the United States, separating families and ruining lives. 6 children have died in border patrol custody. A lot more have died in the deserts along the southern border and somehow, our voices are not being heard.

Over 3,000 children were separated from their parents at the border. They live in cages. Sleep on the floor. They cry out and are not comforted. Some of them are moved throughout different camps, sleeping in very cheap sheets with freezing temperatures. Others are getting shot at and are being abused physically and sexually.

This is not history, this is happening right now! as you are reading this, there are kids being abused in camps just for the one reason of wanting to seek for a better future.

It is time to raise our voices, so they can finally be heard, and for those who didn’t know, it is the time for you to educate upon this inhumane treatment these innocent kids are receiving.

As an immigrant myself, I am thankful that even tho it has been a journey for me to chase my dreams, I never had to go through the things those kids and families are going through.

So for once, put yourself in their shoes and understand the difficult time these kids are going through.
