There Are Angels At The Checkout Line
And their wings are invisible

I was going through YouTube and a story from the What Would You Do? Television show popped up on my feed. WWYD is a social experiment kind of show that puts actors in social settings to see how people react under different situations.
In the video there’s a young lady who gets to the cash register and is $12 short from the total of her grocery bill. And the cashier isn’t having it. She talks down to her for using a government assistance program card WIC to pay and thinks that she’s already getting assistance from the government therefore doesn’t need any more help. And then other customers overhear the conversation and offer to help pay for the remaining $12, the cashier tries to discourage the good Samaritans but they’re not having it either. They want to help period. The beautiful thing about this is these angels are from all walks of life and racial backgrounds including immigrants. Most of them know what it’s like to be in the young woman’s shoes. It touched my heart and reminded me of my own checkout miracles.
A few years ago there was a store where I lived that I called my Blessings Store because God revealed himself on the checkout line plenty of times.
1 — Through neighborly love
One day as I was walking to the store, a friendly neighbor saw me and offered me a ride since he was going to the same store. He was an older gentleman and a respected resident who also owned a utility company and hired plenty of people from the neighborhood. Once we got to the store, he asked me what I wanted and I picked out all the things in my list and threw them in my basket. We both stood in line and then he offered to pay for it. My grocery cost $47 and he was happy to pay. I was so thankful
2- Re route from the Dollar tree
I had just came back from an interview which went well and had only $6 to spare for food so naturally Dollar tree was the best option for me. As I walked in a gentleman held the door for me. I thanked him and as I preceded to walk in he kindly asked me what I was going in there to get to which I answered
“food.”
“Oh no buying food from the Dollar Tree is such a bad idea. Why don’t you go the farmer’s market grocery store ( Blessings Store)?”
I was embarrassed to tell him I only had $6 and since everything at the Dollar Tree is one dollar I was going to make my money stretch for longer.
“I don’t have it like that. I can get more at the Dollar Tree than the grocery store. “ I got honest.
“Well it might seem that way now but the honest truth is the junk you buy at the Dollar Tree won’t nourish you at all, you’ll be jeopardizing your health. C’mon let’s go that store and I’ll pay for your groceries no worries.”
We did.
I ended going home with over $100 worth of groceries. We had a great conversation and he shared with me some of the projects he was working on and I was happy to help him on a few of them. You never know who is in front of you so it doesn’t hurt to be kind to people and not be stuck up. We remain friendly even to this day.
3- a stranger in a car.
One day as I was walking to my blessings store I met a gentleman who was asking for directions and then we started talking about life. We found out that we both came from the same town and our conversation was so dope he ended up going into the store with me and I picked my items and then boom he offered to pay my groceries and again I was thankful for the gesture.
4 — piggy bank slowing the line
It was a Sunday right after church time when folks rush through the grocery so they can go home to the infamous Sunday dinners. While I thought it was bad timing God knew it was actually good timing. As I counted my piggy bank worth of coins, I could hear sighs of annoyance from the other customers who had were getting impatient. The heavy breathing and whispered distracted me from counting in peace as a result I’d had to recount some change. And then a gentleman in a suit who was coming from church came up to me and told me to go and that he was going to pay for my groceries. I walked out jumping with joy happy to still have my piggy bank money untouched.
5- the lottery win
I never buy lottery tickets ever but one day I was led to buy two lottery tickets and won $200 instantly.
So once I got on my feet I asked God to be an angel too and when an elderly lady had trouble paying for her groceries the other day, I offered to pitch in and pay her groceries. It wasn’t a whole lot but I felt so thankful to give back.
God is amazing and He shows up even at the checkout line. Through His angels who look just like me and you. No fancy white wings but invisible ones and great hearts. Now that things have gotten better for me I always look for that opportunity to bless someone at the checkout line just like those who helped me. And these situations taught me to receive good into my life, which has always been a struggle for me. God did these checkout blessings not once but five times. It was my assignment to understand His grace and abundance. To be assured that He provides in unexpected ways and consistently.
Do you have a place where God showed up for you plenty of times like my blessings store?
Thank you for reading.♥️
