Love

Their Lifestyles — Not of My Kind

I look for and find reasons to love them. And I do love them. They know it.

I know this one guy. He hunts and fishes and celebrates his bounty with boisterous excitement to all within his vocal aim. His lifestyle is not my lifestyle. When I see him, I tell him in some way, “I love you, man.” And I do.

I know this one woman. Hard-working mother and wife. Aside from her smoking habit, she’s in great health. She likes to talk about what she watches on television (usually reality TV) or how she did at the bingo games. Her lifestyle is not my lifestyle. When I see her, I find a way to let her know, “I love you, friend.” And I do.

I know these two young women. They both have smiling eyes and have cool ink decorating their bodies. Their lifestyle is not my lifestyle. When I see them together, we laugh and smile. I want to show them, “I love you, gals.” And I do.

There are many people who do things differently and live lifestyles that are not my kind of lifestyle. I want to love them. I find ways to love them. When I look for ways to love, it’s easy to find. And I do.

So many different lifestyles. Differences in practices and beliefs. Different in politics and in habits. Difference I cannot begin to imagine sometimes.

But there are also many things that are similar.

We all want to learn. We all want to laugh.

We all want to be heard. We all want to be loved.

I find reasons to love them. I then show them I love them. With words, actions, or deeds.

Can we please help each other in some of those commonalities without judgments?
