Changes to Our Submission Guidelines
To ensure the quality consistency of our work and transparency in our editing process, we have made several changes to our submission guidelines.
Please note that these changes reflect only what is different from our previous guidelines, not the entirety of it. If you are new, go to the submission guideline page to see full details.
Topic and Style
Writing advice can be from any background, whether you come from Medium, Substack, or any other writing platform, as long as the advice is the central point of your work.
However, this may give rise to the “business side” of writing, like “How to make money on Medium?” or “How much I made in February writing for Medium”.
We don’t necessarily reject that kind of writing, especially if it comes from genuine experience in which numbers may be more convenient in validating your advice and inspiring others.
However, we will reject any work that exists for the sole purpose of fishing for more views and claps, that uses numbers to sensationalize it but contains shallow advice and false promises. Writing and sharing stories is often not about money, but rather about sending a message.
Heading Format
Your work should always contain a title, a subtitle, and an image to ensure the consistency of display quality in our publication. The subtitle is recommended to be no longer than two lines; the headline image may be above or below your title.
Draft Submission
Draft submission is now optional, meaning you can submit an already-published story to The Writer’s Way. However, depending on how long ago that story was published, it may not receive the most exposure due to the most recent-to-oldest order in which articles are arranged.
Sparse paragraphs
For the sake of artistic expression, continuous one-line paragraphs are allowed as long as they are italicized + block-quoted (first form):
This is what an italicized and block-quoted text looks like.
Consent to Editing
We may conduct an editing session for your work if necessary. Changes may be major, but we will provide a list of details for any change we have made and suggestions for improvement. Repeated failure to adhere to these suggestions may get your work rejected.
We Are Expanding Into More Topics
Until now, The Writer’s Way writers could only submit stories related to writing experience and lessons. This April, we plan to expand the publication to include personal stories on any topic; a section on the homepage will be dedicated to those stories.
This is our second and the next-to-last topic expansion in the foreseeable future. More details will be discussed in a separate post from our editor later this week.
March By The Numbers
In March,
- 36 new writers got on the roster
- 8 submissions were submitted
Additionally, The Writer’s Way:
- Reached 556 unique visitors
- Received 1.6k views across all pages
- Amounted to 963 minutes read
The Writer’s Way would not make it this far without you, all our writers and readers. We are grateful for your contributory spirit and regard for our mission to help writers bring their voices to the world.
Send Us Feedback
Early last month, our editor began to work on the publication’s design and submission guidelines for writers.
It is now time for the maintenance of the publication. We’d greatly appreciate your feedback in the comment section.
This includes your thoughts on the publication’s presentation, clarity of submission guidelines, and any other aspects you feel contribute to the overall experience.
We’d like to extend our gratitude to all these amazing writers for considering The Writer’s Way as a new home for their work:
