The Writer’s Freedom
In trying times, the solace we find in expression cannot be controlled.
Life around us is chaos. The writer finds their niche and begins the creation of something they believe will bring hope to readers. Writers share their hearts. They create poetry to lift the spirit. They lament their trials and losses, build steps to create a legacy as a writer, and they support other writers along the way.
We, as writers, are not here to demand a certain respect. Respect as an author comes when one respects others. Respect is earned. Respect for fellow writers also follows the same vein. We strip away the wall of acceptance in writing when we demand a certain level of respect, and then stomp our feet in order to get control again. Unfortunately, when one controls, someone has to submit.
Curiously, COVID created a dark hole for many of us. We struggled to find our writer’s voice, felt tired, some of us sick and overworked, others, depressed for lack of work. We lost control. The world spun into a dramatic plot, only a writer could see and feel powerless about changing the rough draft. Instead, we became pawns in a battle of mental fortitude when life set its course.
In the writer’s world, we embrace the differences of each other and seek to write for ourselves, with the greater good in mind. We limit boxes. The boxes of life put us in corners and demand a specific characterization. No matter what size your box comes in, its still a box.
Writer’s jump out of boxes and demonstrate the freedom to create beyond the walls of strict guides demanding we follow protocol. Writers understand the challenge of writing outside the box.
Still, we collide in the writer’s world. As sad as it is to say it, even in the world of words we have boxes to jump through. Often, intelligent beings draw hard lines in the path, demanding biased homage.
Unfortunately, when one controls, someone has to submit.
In a power and control mindset, we draw the hard line and demand respect. We want to create opposition so we gain strength. Often our egos are so fractured we cannot even see how the line is full of demanding.
No matter what way you say it, the hard line is a divide. The streak of insistence to strip the freedom to choose who to write for and how much to write, and how often to write, becomes the teetering cup on a balance beam.
As a writer, my spirit soars with the freedom to express, edit, and change how I perceive the world. Writers, like myself, often find a niche and we bloom in each successive submission of writing. Often, we face failure, or perceived failure when an article is rejected.
However, we believe in the path and we return to the article again, changing, challenging our ego, and resume the edit process.
Chaos. To edit is chaos. To ignore an editors request is also part of the chaos. To review your work, deciding the voice you used to write within remains constant, then your choice to leave an article as is, becomes your hard line.
We are provided the opportunity to draw lines in the spaces we dwell. The prerogative is personal. Draw the line, create the divide, conquer your world. You end up with a empty hand, echoing with lament the hard line drawn.
To write is to breathe. My words, chosen to express a thought, come from a place of empathy toward the world’s constant battle against chaos. I seek to write for others who have battled the same wars of emotions and walked away a survivor. I also write for those who use tactics which hurt people, so they can learn to unhurt.
I write for people to grow, heal, and hope for a brighter future.
As I share this piece with my fellow writers, I encourage you to write, edit, and explore genres, which build your writer’s experience rather than simply drop unending words of nothingness into the world.
Writers understand the challenge of writing outside the box.
In the realm of a writer’s power, I say, Take Massive Action today and write your truth. Write about why you write. Share your story. Share your heart. And in the process, you’ll find others who catch the vision of lifting each other up and build a bridge of hope to anyone struggling along the path of life.

I honor you.
I want to thank George J. Ziogas for encouraging the writer’s mind and strengthening the spirit of hope in a world full of chaos. I want to thank Adam, Diabetic Cyborg for lifting up the spiritual places when we find the road to write or create littered with stress. And I lift up Agnes Louis who pours her heart in her writing and creates connections for all to see. Each of you are part of a whole who have lifted fellow writer’s up and built a foundation sure to guide new writers and seasoned writers toward hope. Thank you for the time you spend in writing. Your work is noticed, appreciated, and strengthened by the consistent voice you share.
