The World Traveler’s Blog is Closing its Doors
We hope you‘ve enjoyed your travels with us!
Dear readers and writers of The World Traveler’s Blog,

Thank you for being part of the journey, but our time as a Medium publication nears its end.
From the beginning, our goal was to bring travelers together, to share their stories and everything they love about the world. Starting this project in the middle of a global pandemic was a challenge; but perhaps it gave hope to those now living in a post-normal world to remember the good times before, and dream about what comes next.
We hope that you have shared these ideals with us, and we know that you will find other outlets for your travel needs in the future.
A brief overview of ‘why’
This decision had several influences, but I will share 2 of them with you here.
First, the Medium community/platform is changing. This has been true for some time now, and the changes have been working against publications in various ways. This is why we have watched as several large, and many small, publications have shut down. We are closing our doors, in part, in solidarity with these other publications and with the acknowledgment that Medium is a place where the self-published author can flourish without publications (and this is the way Medium wants it).
Second, as mentioned above, a travel-based publication is quite difficult to run during a global pandemic. The pandemic has gone on longer than anyone could have hoped, and we are noticing its impact on travel writing and participation as well.
We find it hard to justify the ongoing work of our editors in the current environment. However, we are shutting down now only in a temporary manner. If/when the climate for travel writing changes, and if Medium decides to support publications once more, our editors have all agreed to consider reopening the WTB.
How this works for authors and patrons
We will stop accepting new articles for publication at the end of September. On the last day of the month, all articles in our queue will be accepted (and published) or rejected based on our standard guidelines. The publication itself will remain open, readable and searchable, indefinitely. Don’t worry about articles being withdrawn from their published status at any time. We simply won’t publish anything new for the foreseeable future.
Our services offered through Patreon will also end on September 30th. We will not renew any subscriptions thereafter unless you and your editor decide to continue.
Thanks for traveling with us!
I want to thank each of the editors for their dedication and hard work. They have kept this going through sheer love of travel and community, and I should hope that all teams could work together so well.
We also want to thank all the authors who contributed their work and helped make this publication possible.
I have learned so much more about the world, and the cultures and people who live here, simply by running this publication for a short while. It has been a terrific experience, I hope you all feel the same after reading it.
Travel well, stay safe, and may we see each other again someday!
-Cody, along with Glad, Anne, and Alex (Be Adventurer), on behalf of the World Traveler’s Blog
