Sting, who reached his high water mark somewhere around 1983, has seen an uptick in his already massive wealth in the last two weeks based on listens to his song, Russians, from the 1984 album “Dream of the Blue Turtles”.
Good for him. He’s clearly been doing it for the money for a while now. And good for us, since he hit the nail on the head with his lyrics then and they wouldn’t require too much updating now.
But the Scorpions have been quiet. And one has to wonder how much longer we can go without them.
It is time for Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Mattias Jabs, Francis Buchholz and Hermann (the German) Rarebell to get together one last time and unite the world in peace and in freedom, like they did back in 1990.
Yes, I know there is a documentary podcast out there that outlines how this song was part of a CIA plot to undermine the Soviet government.
Even better.
The song obviously did the trick 30 years ago, so why not dust it off and give it a go again?
They could play it 10 times in a row, we could all whistle along at the appropriate parts and feel the shivers of nostalgia for a time when it all still seemed possible, running up and down our spines.
If they want to throw in Big City Nights, Holiday, Still Loving You, Rock You Like a Hurricane and No One Like You, then so much the better.
Why not take it one step further and recreate the Moscow Music Peace Festival in which they, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row and Cinderella and Bon Jovi shared the stage at the Luzhniki Sports Palace and gave us all hope for a better tomorrow filled with hairy rock and roll.
I just checked and in fact the Scorpions released a new album on February 25th that somehow got by me. It’s called “Rock Believer”, obviously. The marketing tie-ins here are a golden opportunity that cannot be ignored.
See the video link below and tell me that Russians wouldn’t be into this as well.
Join me in begging the Scorpions to find their way to the top of the Berlin Wall again and give the world what it wants — an end to military insanity and a return to rock and roll insanity.
