The world must hold China accountable for spreading a deadly pathogen
COVID-19 is China’s crime against humanity
China declared World War -III against humanity without firing a shot. The reckless negligence of a single nation has the entire world locked down. Tens of thousands of people have died in many countries. It has shattered economies. COVID-19 has inflicted massive suffering on humanity.
China is a nation that is intoxicated with notions of world conquest. It thought it could use its financial muscle to browbeat the world into submission. Except for the United States, no other nation has the courage to question China’s aggressive economic and military policies.
The Chinese Communist Party and the political leadership cultivated an image of infallibility and invincibility to buy unquestioning loyalty from the people who traded their freedoms for the mirage of unending prosperity.
The world doesn’t care what the Chinese eat. But when they eat exotic wildlife and unleash deadly viruses, the world has the right to question them.
The coronavirus surfaced in Wuhan in early December. Some Chinese doctors warned of an impending epidemic. What did the Chinese authorities do? They threatened the whistleblowers and bought their silence under the threat of punishment. The conscientious objectors had families to protect. So they did not press the matter further.
China dithered for a month before reporting the matter to the World Health Organization. By the time the virus had spread across the world riding piggyback on international travellers.
China has confirmed that it is a rogue nation masquerading as a superpower because only rogue nations wantonly disregard international obligations and rules.
Arrogance blinded the Chinese authorities from realizing the imminent danger of the pathogen spreading to other parts of the world. Or did they do it deliberately? Only time will tell. The Chinese will do all they can to destroy evidence. But truth has a knack of coming out of the crevices of deception and treachery.
How can the world hold China accountable?
China has already unleashed its propaganda machinery to cover its tracks and to escape blame for the pandemic. China will veto a resolution against it in the UN Security Council. All nations must unite and pass a resolution in the United Nations General Assembly condemning China for spreading the pandemic. The resolution must make two demands.
- Ask China to issue an unconditional apology for not informing the world about the epidemic.
- Demand China to pay reparation of not less than $100 billion. This amount should be paid to the World Health Organization, which can distribute it to the victim nations depending on the scale of the pandemic’s impact.
China should also be hauled up before the International Criminal Court for committing a crime against humanity.
World leaders must set aside their differences and resist Chinese threats and inducements. They owe it to the victims and millions of people whose lives have been ruined by the pandemic.
It is time to make China pay for its misdeeds.
