The Winter Solstice

Two lovely alignments

Photo by Simon Matzinger on Unsplash

Yesterday was the shortest day of the year. Winter Solstice. It was also combined with full moon etc.

Winter Solstice is a time of unmistakably large new beginnings.

“By the time of the Winter Solstice, everything that began growing at the Summer Solstice has contracted into one seed of potential, and that seed begins to expand. Add to this the Christmas story, and Hanukah, the Season of Light, and the point is unmistakable. New beginnings happen, and they are wonderful when they do.” — Wikipedia

For some reason I jumped up out of bed last night (well this morning) with an insane passion to go write. It was 3 a.m!

I’m sure many can relate.

You know when you get almost possessed to get up and write? You feel you MUST get the ideas up and out of you onto paper — right NOW!!?

I hadn't gotten up at this ungodly hour to write in a long time but I followed my muse. It inspired me.

I saw that this inspiration happened to be in conjunction with the Winter Solstice.

Hmmm… new beginnings , shortest day of the year stuff. Is there a connection?

I did a Google Search about Winter Solstice 2018. I found that this 2018 version is a bit different than the usual. There are added events, unrelated but all part of the same night sky.

This year’s full cold moon falling almost exactly in line with the December solstice on the 21st, with its peak around midday on the 22nd.

The longest night of the year coincides with a big, beautiful full moon. It’s the first time since 2010 since the two have been less than 24 hours apart, and the last time until 2029.

I happen to have two nice alignments/conversions happen (new beginnings) both on the same day — Ironically the Winter Solstice shortest day of the year.

  1. I was offered to be the Musical Director for an elder club, which is a group of seniors for an organization where senor citizens meet twice a week for get togethers. The director of this organization said an opportunity opened up yesterday (Winter Solstice).

She asked if I wanted to do it. I said sure. It sounds fun. I’ve been rehearsing music lately, and putting new songs together for a Musical, so this seemed cool.

I am a musician and I love bringing people together with music. Old people especially, since I’m an ‘old’ Broadway singer’ and my music appeals to the older generation.

Also, I used to lead sing a longs with my guitar around the campfire beginning at 10 years old. I think older people will love the older music I know plus having them participate and sing a long will connect everyone.

2. Secondly, a friend of mine and are combining our talents into a new editing/consulting/design business. We finalized the logo today. We will be helping clients with a variety of creative design endeavors.

This also feels right because it is using another of my skills and interests of art and design.

Our plan is to begin January.

Here’s our logo:

“If you need it..we create it”

So… two new beginnings on this Winter Solstice day for me.

Oh, another irony.

Right when I was about to go back to bed at 5 a.m. I saw THIS come up in my email from a friend of mind:

Winter solstice full moon. Rare occurrence. Will not live to see this again without comic book style medical advancements. Enjoy it whilst you can Michelle!

LOL

Did any new opportunities open up for you on this shortest day of the year? Do you believe in the new energies of this time of year?

I’d love to hear! Happy Holidays.
