Summary

The White Light Society is seeking new writers to contribute fresh and updated content, with a specific submission process and expectations for writer engagement.

Abstract

The White Light Society, a personal publication of an individual who also writes for various Medium outlets and edits for Illumination publications, is actively looking for writers to prevent the publication from becoming stagnant. The editor, who has already invited Tree Langdon to contribute, requests potential writers to leave a link to their most relevant and updated piece in the comments for consideration. Selected writers are expected to submit content within seven days of being added, or they will be removed without a second chance. The publication emphasizes the importance of submitting current and revitalized material rather than outdated pieces from previous years, encouraging updates and new artwork to keep the content fresh and relevant.

Opinions

  • The editor values active contribution and engagement from writers, as demonstrated by the seven-day submission requirement.
  • There is a clear preference for high-quality, relevant, and updated content over archival or previously submitted material.
  • The publication is described as "living" and "breathing," indicating a desire for continuous growth and evolution in its content.
  • The editor seems to have a busy schedule, balancing writing and editing responsibilities, yet still prioritizes the development of their personal publications.
  • There is an expectation that potential writers should be prepared with existing or refreshed articles before requesting to join as a writer.

UPDATE: Oct. 7, 2021, I closed down the WLS so all stories posted there have reverted back to the original writers.

A call to writers for The White Light Society. This is one of my two personal publications. Yes, when I’m not writing for, oh, just about everyone on Medium, or editing for three of the Illumination publications, then in my spare time (hardy hardy harr harr) I wrote for my own publications.

However, until I can find some balance, I need writers! I don’t want my publication to go stagnate. Tree Langdon, I’ve already added you as a writer, FYI.

Everyone else, unless you’re already an editor then please leave a link to the piece you’re the proudest of that has to do with the subject matter I’m looking for (so no Aunt Suzie or puppy dog stories, thanks) in the comments. I will be in touch with the ones that I am interested in signing on.

Please understand — if I sign you on and you don’t submit something within the first seven days, I will remove you as a writer. I will not add you a second time. You should already have some articles written or some old ones freshened up by the time you ask me to add you as a writer.

That brings me to my next point.

NO stale-dated material.

I don’t want the original submission that you sent to a different publication back in 2017. Clean it up, update it if need be, swap out the artwork, and then submit it. I will not use TWLS as an archival system. It’s a living, breathing publication.

I look forward to your submissions!
