Summary

Sandi Parsons shares her observations and experiences with a flock of white cockatoos that have peacefully moved into her area, contrasting their behavior with the noisy pink galahs, and provides interesting facts about these parrots.

Abstract

The article titled "The White Cockatoos Have Moved In" under the "Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle" series, captures Sandi Parsons' encounter with white cockatoos. While pink galahs were creating a ruckus, the white cockatoos settled in quietly and began feeding. One particular cockatoo caught Parsons' attention with its confident strut and showmanship, seemingly unafraid of humans. Despite its friendly demeanor, Parsons is wary of its powerful beak. She notes the cockatoos' yellow tail feathers with hints of pink, suggesting possible intermingling with pink galahs. The piece also educates readers on cockatoos, mentioning their long lifespan, their place in the parrot family, and their reputation for being the loudest of all parrots. The White Cockatoos Have Moved In

Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle

Ohhh-la-la, look at me. I’m pretty!

While the Pink Galahs were busy squawking and squabbling, the white cockatoos moved in. They settled in peacefully and started munching.

Except for this guy. He’s always keen to strut about and show off his stuff. He doesn’t appear afraid of me or my husbeast (it’s an affectionate name!). I believe he’d eventually come and eat out of my hand — if I wanted him to, which I don’t.

I’m sure he’s friendly, but take a *gander at that beak! It looks lethal. (*gander means ‘have a look-see’ in Aussie. Possibly because of the way male geese stretch their necks out when they want to look at something😉)

I’m not sure which variety of white cockatoo this is (or any of the others that come to visit). They all have yellow tail feathers with smatterings of pink scattered about them. It’s possible this flock was a little too friendly with some Pink Galahs (it happens!)

🐦Cockatoos are from the parrot family. 🐦Cockatoos live for 40 -70 years. They can live up to 100 years in captivity! 🐦Cockatoos are the loudest of all parrots (personally, I think they’re trying to compete with the Pink Galahs.)
