The View from My Dust-Covered Window

An appreciation of the present moment

A man walks his dog from right to left, passing a man on a walk by himself from left to right as the morning sun drapes across my drapes and spills onto the wall beside me.

The wind softly blows as the traffic gently flows up and down the main street in the distance. You can see the life that spring brings back to this little corner of the world.

The sun reflects off the side of my car and the building across the parking lot. It highlights every twig on the right side of all the trees that have yet to grow back their leaves.

It’s beautiful.

The birds chirp as the man with his dog returns in the opposite direction, and now my dog wants to experience it, too.

All this will soon change. The days will get hotter, then colder again. The trees will grow back their leaves. And, the morning sunshine will turn to moonlight.

Be thankful for what you have; someday, you won’t have it anymore.

The only thing that always stays the same is the fact that nothing ever stays the same. We all get older, and we change. Our belongings get used, and they wear and tear.

When you think you’ve figured everything out, the game changes, leaving you in the dust. Everything hangs by a delicate string.

It’s a big, bad, beautiful world, and time sneaks up on you when you least expect it. But what do they always say? Expect the unexpected. Hope for the best while preparing for the worst, but whatever you do, don’t expect anything to remain the same.

And above all else, enjoy what you have while you have it.
