The Very Real Struggle Of Not Knowing
The daily cliff hangers in everyday life:

Not knowing what lies ahead is a challenge we all face. How can we accept uncertainty? Whenever we come to a crossroads in our life, not knowing what is going to happen is enough to make us batty.
Isn’t that what drives us to finish a book we are reading into the wee hours of the night because we have to know how it is going to end?
Why is it that not knowing is so challenging for us? I believe uncertainty makes us feel vulnerable and vulnerable is not comfortable.
“The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably deal with.” ~Tony Robbins
What if we tried to embrace uncertainty? What if instead of running scenarios over and over, we just accepted the discomfort? Discomfort may be what ultimately guides us to make the necessary changes in our lives.
When we think we know what to expect, we block out alternative options that are trying to present themselves. When we are uncertain, we are more open to other possibilities.
How can we learn to accept not knowing the future?
1- Start to recognize how often uncertainty creeps in and makes you uncomfortable. Acknowledging your discomfort is critical.
2- Observe the emotions/feelings you are experiencing around not knowing what to expect.
3- Build up a tolerance for these feelings. Let it go. Just because we don’t know how things will turn out, does not mean that they will turn out badly.
Tell yourself that uncertainty is part of life and that you will accept that. When you face your fears, your fears lose their power over you. When you get comfortable with discomfort, it can’t control you. Trust your skillset, that no matter what obstacles lay ahead of you, you will have the tools in your tool belt to handle it. Life has a funny way of preparing you for the future.
Trust the wait. Embrace uncertainty. Enjoy the beauty of becoming, when nothing is certain anything is possible. ~Mandy Hale
