The Value of Consistency
3 steps that will create powerful results for your life.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. The great civilization of old took several generations to reach the peak of history that many know Rome for. The reason? Daily bricks, laid one at a time.
The pattern of consistency can be modeled for any lifestyle. It’s true that many famous individuals only had found recognition and acceptance after they died. While this shouldn’t deter you, this statement should provide reason to improve what you can control.
Your own results shouldn’t then matter on public opinion. Instead, it should be about the life you want to live. What life do you want to live? Let’s start with creating your vision.
1) Vision
Painting that mental picture is the first step to better life results. How do you want your life to look like? What do you want your daily schedule to be? When do you want this vision to happen? Write down as much as you can think of for your ideal life. Be generous because it’s for you. This vision could include a job, house, family, mastered skills, or hobbies to name a few.
Be consistent in looking back at your vision. Refocus and change it if you need to. The key here is having that visual for yourself. Build core values and principles to guide yourself. Find necessary mentors that will guide and help you.
Be reasonable with where you want to go. A realistic vision, even if its out of reach, is better than one that’ll cause you to lose focus and desire. A visible destination provides ideas of how you can reach it. The key then is turning these ideas into action.
2) Manageable action
Having a long term vision will create opportunities for necessary actions. This will help with time management and not feeling overwhelmed. Have a vision for getting in shape or landing that dream job? Make actionable plans for 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months will provide an adequate blueprint. Find a gym membership and create times you workout. Map out job opportunities and build your resume.
To help stay on task with your blueprint, be consistently accountable. The blueprint of building Rome included workers that would lay the groundwork. Continued work was needed and accounted for the people’s vision of Rome. Rome kept itself accountable to build itself.
Having a hard time holding yourself accountable? Include other people in your action items. This could be reaching out to potential employers for informational interviews. It could be having someone to workout with. Involving others will push you to be accountable to the blueprint you laid for yourself.
3) Community relationships
In the end, the life you want is a life that will bring you joy. The work that will buildup to this vision will sometime be joyless. Be consistent with enjoying small success moments. Take a weekend to recover from you blueprint. Build personal relationships with loved ones or friends during this time. Let them know how your vision is coming along.
Building relationships can involve those that will eventually share similar visions as yourself. This could be a potential colleague in the workforce. It could be a gym buddy that shares that same vision for a healthy lifestyle. Finding a community will be the key reason for your success. You’ll find that community driven atmospheres will shape your mindset and focus.
A community will also foster inclusion and responsibility. The ideals of romans pushed their civilization to greater heights. They created Rome according to their roles and relationships. Culture and leadership. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Rome was built the people’s way.
Your life’s Rome.
Don’t worry if you’re not where you want to be yet. Great things take time.
