What I Published On Medium

I read a few articles on Medium extolling me to work harder and publish everyday. So, as I’m easily influenced, that is exactly what I did, upping my publication count to six

Only to earn less, while making the same number of comments.

Publish more, earn less.

hmmmmm.

I have no explanation for this. It could be just fluctuations. But, of course:

I’m not thrilled. But not overly discouraged

The University of the Third Age

The University of the Third Age is an international organisation for retired and semi-retired people to meet up and do, well, anything that they want to do.

It’s not an academic organisation. It’s a group where people meet up to do interests and hobbies. I attended my first meeting last week. Everyone was really friendly, most were over 60.

There were lots of groups I was interested in, but I’ve only joined one so far, as I don’t want to overload myself.

  • The University of Third Age has a £24 annual fee, but the rest of the activities are free (except for costs like travel etc)
  • As I knew the group skewed old, I was hoping for good refreshments. I was not disappointed: there were seven kinds of homemade cake at the new members’ meeting.
  • There are big regional variations. There are lots of groups in London, but very few in Derbyshire. Of course, if you could always open your own group if there’s nothing near you.
  • Groups are very dependent on members' interests.
  • For example, groups I’m interested in: history, book club, lunchtime concerts in historic London churches, mah jong.
  • There’s always looking for volunteers to run the Third Age. There are opportunities for reporting, organising, helping with refreshments.

I could have joined this group many years ago, but I just never heard about it.

If you’re retired or semi-retired and are looking for new interests and a way to meet new people, I would encourage you to check it out.

Free Gym Pass for UK Readers

This is such a good offer, I’m going to leave it here for a few weeks. For my UK friends who are interested in the free pass for Nuffield Gyms for customers with M&S sparks app/card. This 7-day free trial is live between 11th January 2024 until 11th February 2024 (inclusive).
