Across the world, coffee has become a part of people’s daily ritual with many of us becoming hooked ever since our first sip. However, there has been a recent change in momentum as coffee alternatives have begun to rise in popularity. For many, this has come as no surprise as people have become increasingly aware of the dependency they have on coffee. While others have even seen health concerns from their frequent consumption. Luckily, there do seem to be some great alternatives out there, which will hopefully suit those who want to walk away from drinking coffee.

Recently matcha has become a great craze, though it has been around for a long time before, originating back to China during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE), yes, a very long time ago. From then on, Japan took matcha onboard as it became deeply ingrained in and amongst their culture.

As I’ve previously mentioned matcha has most recently been taken aboard by much of the public as it has skyrocketed in popularity. So far, social media has by far been at the heart of this finely ground powder as people have extensively been promoting its benefits. Not only is this the case, but the vibrant ‘green’ colour also does seem to be appealing to the masses.

However, if you have been persuaded and already tempted yourself into trying matcha out, it may come as no surprise that the benefits are convincing. Not to mention, the unique flavour of the earthy tones does seem to add a surprising contribution towards such a fine drink.

Compared to coffee, matcha still does an effective job at energising and essentially performing the same function coffee users need when they consume their daily cups. Matcha still contains caffeine and something special called L-Theanine. As we all know, caffeine provides an energy boost, whilst L-Theanine implements a calming effect, eliminating that jittery and lethargic mood you can get from coffee.

Though similarly, caffeine is still present, which is not always the best regarding health, but luckily it does seem to contain a significantly less, and more moderate level. Not only does this seem to add to the benefits, but so does the fact that matcha releases caffeine slower into the bloodstream. This means that it is released over a longer period of time rather than that instant flow that a typical coffee provides.

Last but not least…

We all know that having the correct amount of vitamins and minerals a day is key to sustaining a healthy body. I am sure that many of us accomplish this by taking a multivitamin tablet or a similar kind of thing. Surprisingly, matcha also contributes towards your nutritional health as the finely ground leaves contain high sources of nutrients, which further boost your body’s nutritional levels.

Overall, matcha is a really good alternative for those who want to steer away from drinking coffee or even for others who might want to indulge in a new drink. Hopefully, you learned something new about matcha and how great it really is for your body.
