STUDENT LIFE
The Truth of the Pandemic Impact on University Students in the UK
The toughest times for university students
Hi Friends.
Hello. This article will shed light on the struggle that we as students face. The world has been too busy to focus on businesses closing/re-opening vaccine production to where we students became “forgotten and hidden”. It is largely the impact that lockdown had on students all around the globe, specifically on the UK students.
This is because the UK is still under Lockdown and it has been for over 18 months, the same situation in March 2020 it is still the same now…
I am a University student myself, In London city, currently in my second undergraduate course of International Interprenership & Businesses.
Everyone’s lockdown experience was different. Students, middle-aged adults, and retired adults, which means its effect on personality will vary from person to person.
Being stuck at home unemployed and worrying about how you’ll support yourself or your family differs from doing your job remotely while quarantining and spending a “normal” life in lockdown conditions.
How much has the pandemic changes students?
If you’re feeling not quite yourself the past few months, or if your old life doesn’t look as appealing as it once did, know you’re not alone. Lots of us are being reshaped by the pandemic. For those fortunate to have had the physical and mental space for reflection, our everyday selves may even end up better aligned with our ideal selves after this is over.
My Personal experience was very similar to most people however, as a student living in a student accommodation it has been a tough period, especially when there are restrictions of who and when may interact with.
We all have had different experiences of lockdown. Different experiences from countries to cities and different living situations, such as age, occupation, and gender.
Many people have lost their jobs, occupations, careers, and livelihood because of the pandemic and the lockdown, others made even more money from the pandemic by selling facemasks and hand sanities. Either way, we have all been affected in a way or another.
But “while we may not have developed a collective ‘lockdown personality,’” writes the BBC’s Christian Jarrett, “we might have been changed idiosyncratically, dependent on our specific circumstances.” For those lucky enough to avoid a traumatic lockdown experience, evidence suggests the disruption might actually bring about positive changes.
I often look at every situation and take the positive side out and try to learn and look at anything beneficial that came out of the situation.
With this situation, there are positive elements, but how many? And do the positive outweigh the negative?
University students have had it tough!
A total cost of £9.2k to pay for one year, for each student learning at University, while it would cost a lot less if learned online. The past year there wasn't any interactive learning and no genuine support. As a university student, you feel lonely, bored, and unwanted. All this for only one year, the 2020 academic year.
It is often depressing and unhealthy, physically and mentally, to study only from home, without the need to leave the house, meet classmates and interact in a classroom environment.
Recently, the BBC published an article about the life of a university student.

These images from the BBC news highlight the negative influence of the Pandemic on University students throughout the academic year.
University students have basically spent their entire year from September 2020 to April 2021 studying online virtually through Zoom and Microsoft Teams calls.
How effective is it to learn and progress from home? The government isn't always clear on the future of University students.
First-year students have only experienced an online version only, others started a Ph.D. course just as the pandemic began in early 2020.
Regardless of the past, giving up is not an option.
Universities across the UK are already announcing the good news or welcoming students to University campuses and to attend seminars and lectures physically from September 2021.
