About the Illuminati
Illuminati — is the Latin plural for illuminatus, or “enlightened.”
The term “Illuminati” has intrigued and perplexed people for centuries, often shrouded in mystery and conspiracy theories. Considering the term originally meant “enlightened,” why are we so in the dark about this group?
It is my hope to uncover some of the truths about the Illuminati, or at least to shed light on its origin and separate some facts from fiction.
Please join me on this journey to uncover the truth about the Illuminati.
What Is the Origin of the Illuminati?
The Illuminati, a secret organization with roots dating back to the late 15th century, was officially founded on May 1, 1776, in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, by Adam Weishaupt, a former Jesuit professor.
Initially called the “Order of the Illuminati,” its primary goal was to promote enlightenment ideals and secularism.
Weishaupt’s vision was to create a society free from the influence of religion and monarchies, where reason and knowledge would prevail.
It advocated the separation of church and state. Something many of us still long for today. Of course, each has its place, and both provide distinct services, but neither should have undue influence over the other.
Many “sects” were created in various countries, such as in Egypt and Spain, the Enlightened Ones or Alumbrados and the Gnosticists, were two such organizations.
Though many were wiped out by government purges, like the Spanish Inquisition — many were sworn to secrecy to prevent such purging.

Who Was Behind the Illuminati?
Adam Weishaupt, a professor with a strong passion for enlightenment values, was the driving force behind the Illuminati’s formation.
Weishaupt envisioned a society where individuals could think freely and independently, unburdened by religious and political dogma.
He recruited like-minded individuals from various backgrounds, including academics, professionals, and writers, to join his clandestine organization.
Weishaupt’s leadership and determination were instrumental in shaping the early direction of the Illuminati.
Although Weishaupt’s organization was disbanded in 1785 (many of the members were imprisoned), and he was driven out of Bavaria, rumors of the group’s deeds continued well into the 21st century.
After the banishment, no news articles or historical records reported activity by the Weishaupt Illuminati. However, the Illuminati were often mentioned by conspiracy theorists.
The group was credited with instigating the French Revolution and the assassination of JFK. The notion of an all-knowing, all-powerful organization remains popular with conspiracy theorists and those who wish for political consciousness and enlightenment.
Many rumors referred to them as the “New World Order.” Some even speculate the organization’s head is the “Antichrist.”
We Explain the New World Order Conspiracy Theory
Is the Illuminati the New World Order?
The concept of the Illuminati being synonymous with the New World Order is a common misconception perpetuated by conspiracy theorists.
However, President George H. W. Bush referred to the “New World Order” in an address to Congress after the first Gulf War.
“In March 1991, President George H. W. Bush spoke to Congress after the end of the Gulf War in Iraq. In his speech, he outlined a ‘New World Order’ that had replaced the bipolar politics of the Cold War era. According to Bush, this new world order would be organized around the international communities’ efforts to halt aggression by the powerful over the powerless.” — W. W. Norton.
The New World Order refers to a hypothetical global totalitarian government that seeks to control every aspect of society — much like “The New World Order Book” by Nick Redfern, George Orwell’s “1984,” and others.
“Turbulent times. Economic disruptions. Pandemics, wars and civil strife. Hidden and secret cabals. Global elites. Mysterious symbols. Missing money. Surveillance and microchips. Where is the world heading? Just who has control, and what are their goals?” — The New World Order Book Amazon blurb.
If you enjoy conspiracy theories, you’ll enjoy “The New World Order Book” by Nick Redfern.
While some conspiracy theorists claim that the Illuminati serves as the puppet master behind this alleged New World Order, there is no concrete evidence to support such claims.
The Illuminati, as founded by Weishaupt, had different goals centered around Enlightenment ideals rather than global domination.
However, goals change!
What Actually ARE the Illuminati?
Who Are Barruel & Robison?
Two influential figures who played a role in popularizing conspiracy theories about the Illuminati were Abbe Augustin Barruel and John Robison.
John Robison, a Scottish scientist, wrote “Proofs of a Conspiracy” in 1797, where he claimed that the Illuminati infiltrated the Freemasonry and aimed to control world governments.
While their works added to the intrigue surrounding the Illuminati, historians consider many of their claims unsubstantiated.
What Are the Current Fraternal Organizations Said to Have Ties to the Illuminati?
Over the years, various fraternal organizations have been rumored to have ties to the Illuminati.
One such organization is the Freemasons, a centuries-old fraternal group with its own rich history. While some conspiracy theories suggest that the Illuminati infiltrated Freemasonry, there is limited credible evidence to support this claim.
The Freemasons, like the Illuminati, promote enlightenment values and fraternity, but there doesn’t appear to be any credible link between the two — if the Illuminati still exists.

What Is the “Eye of Providence” Pictured on US Currency?
The “Eye of Providence” symbol is commonly associated with the Illuminati.
Although its origins predate the Illuminati’s existence, this symbol, often depicted as an eye enclosed in a triangle, represents divine providence or God’s watchful gaze.
It was adopted as a symbol by various organizations and even appears on the Great Seal of the United States, on the flip side.
While conspiracy theories suggest a connection between the Illuminati and the Eye of Providence, it is essential to recognize that the symbol has broader historical and religious significance.

Was John F. Kennedy’s Assassination Orchestrated by the Illuminati or Another Government Agency?
However, extensive investigations, including the Warren Commission Report, have concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in assassinating President Kennedy. Will we ever know the real truth? It’s doubtful.
While conspiracy theories persist, there is no concrete evidence linking the Illuminati to this tragic event.
It was more likely a combination of the FBI, CIA, and wealthy bankers.

Final Thoughts About the Illuminati
The Illuminati remains a subject of fascination and intrigue, with its origins rooted in “enlightenment” ideals rather than the conspiratorial narratives often associated with it.
