At first, there was just silence, but then they heard a girl’s voice say “Stop it, you’re frightening me”. They couldn’t see anyone in the flat, but then they heard shuffling noises coming from the base of a divan bed. The other police officers that were present bent down to look, and then a young girl crawled out of the hollow base. It was Shannon. Behind her, Michael Donovan was dragged out, biting one of the officers in the struggle, and making a chilling statement.

39-year-old Donovan had kidnapped Shannon from outside her school, and concealed her in the base of the divan bed, restraining her with a strap attached to a roof beam. Blood tests carried out on Shannon revealed that she’d also been drugged.
