Abstract

Every spring, the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC, becomes a hub of life as the cherry blossoms bloom, drawing international crowds to witness the ephemeral beauty and partake in the festivities, including the annual kite festival. The author, Krasi Shapkarova, captures the essence of the season through a photo story challenge themed "Life," which highlights the trees' transition from winter dormancy to a burst of color and activity. The Trees Are Alive

April Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Life”

Alive and vivacious, a tree dances.

Every spring, crowds from around the world flock to the capital of the United States to saunter around the Tidal Basin, take in the magic of the lovely cherry blossoms and join the monthlong festivities.

[The annual kite festival was my favorite!]

Like most visitors, I’m drawn to the fluffy bunches of white and pink, reflecting on the joy they bring, albeit for a short amount of time.

But I also can’t help but notice the trees themselves, and their ability to strike poses I’m not flexible enough to even try.

They may appear still, but they are not. Like much else in nature at this time of year, they wake up from the winter slumber, stretch their limbs, and expand full of color and life.

Some will even dance for you. You just need to pay attention.

Thank you to the team of editors — Sandi Parsons, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, and Mary Chang Story Writer — for always coming up with thought-provoking and exciting challenges!
