The Tough Choice of Escape
a poem

She made the executive decision that we would throw ourselves into that icy lake, blind to the known consequences because in theory, if her calculations were right, we would end up in a parallel universe far less dystopian.
This tiny poem was crafted around throwing the random generator dice and landing on these six words to include in my poem:
- Lake
- Throw
- Blind
- Executive
- Theory
- Parallel
I was in a dystopian / fantasy mood and scenes from American Gods emerged for me. Though that story didn’t exactly involve parallel universes, the visuals of the ice and skating that appear in the show somehow linked these themes altogether for me. (Hope that’s vague enough that it’s not a spoiler!)

Hi I’m Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) and side note, American Gods is pretty good, as a show and a book. I’d recommend reading the book first, because the show adds a level of additional detail that takes it in a different direction. It’s really interesting because I’m used to the opposite being true; that books contain more details than the show / movie adaptation, but in this one, the show elaborates on each character much further.
