I would think that Tooth Fairies taking baths wouldn’t be so fascinating to little girls. What about a little privacy here? Yes, we have lovely gossamer wings, and yes we can fly, that is what magical creatures do! But, little girl, I don’t watch you bathe. Put our bathtub down now, please!

I am Tony, the Parent of all Tooth Fairies. Taking care of young Tooth Fairies can be a challenge. The big ones whine, and the babies cry. I am just one caretaker, and there is NO rest for this weary Fairy. Now I have little girls to worry about.

I stare at this little child and realize she is asleep and dreaming. How lovely to spend your sleep time thinking about us. Does it need to be in our tub?

We are an old race. Old as the mountains and the oceans. How Fairies began, I was never told. I am the Parent of my race, an awesome responsibility. I can still remember my Elder. We called her Shimmer. I do not know if she was female, but I assumed she was. Her hair was pixie short, green, and sparkly. She spread her wings, and love dripped from them to nourish us. I longed to be as lovely and kind as she was. I hope someday I will be as beloved. Pray she grants me her wisdom and patience.

Being a Tooth Fairy demands you be agile and tricky. We are part worker and part magician. Removing teeth and leaving money is no easy task. Some Fairies become companions. Tinkerbell is the most famous because of Peter Pan.

They carry wands and magical Fairy dust. That was what I hoped to be, but Shimmer had other plans for me. This is a great honor, but also a great responsibility. After my Fairy children, hundreds of them, are bathed, they grow sleepy.

I gather my children and, we all fly home. I tuck each one in for the day’s sleep. It will take hours and many stories. “Sleep children, tonight we will fly again”. My little dreamer has returned to her bed as well.

My thoughts keep returning to the sleeping girl. “Goodnight little one, I whisper. Have the sweetest dreams of my lovely Fairy children. Remember their lacy wings and tiny wands. Remember us always, you can tell this story to your children and grandchildren. Tell them about the time you gazed upon the Tooth Fairies, and how glorious we are. Sleep well my child, and know our magic has gently touched you tonight.

I don’t usually write fiction, especially Fairy lore, but I liked the prompt. I hope you liked the story. Judy
