The Three Reasons Biden Must Win
Trump must be voted out if we’re to address these alarming trends
Trump’s campaign strategy is to scare the hell out of us by insisting that a Biden / Harris presidency would turn the US into a communist country riddled with crime.
His back-up strategy is to convince people the election was rigged — but only if he loses of course.
Biden will not replace the market system with communism or abolish the police and suburbs. These are lies, pure and simple.
Biden’s campaign has chosen to highlight Trump’s bad response to the pandemic.
Trump’s pandemic response has indeed been atrocious, so much so that the White House couldn’t even prevent a serious outbreak among Trump and his circle. But the pandemic will eventually be behind us.
The pandemic, while tragic, will pass.
What are the enduring big-picture issues? Well, destructive trends that precede Trump and which Trump has intentionally intensified. The US urgently needs an administration that will acknowledge and address them.
1. The President of the United States must be a leader in the global efforts against climate change.
Trump has never acknowledged that climate change is an important issue, much less a critical one.
Even after all the fires in the West this year, he stubbornly insisted during the painful-to-watch first presidential debate that forest management would have prevented them and refused to acknowledge the role of climate change.
The Trump administration has only weakened or eliminated environmental protections and there’s no chance Trump will change course.
Even conservation activist Jane Goodall, who has even reached the hearts of oil executives and scientists who experiment on chimps, has concluded that attempts to reach Trump would be fruitless:
“I cannot imagine that President Trump would listen to anything I have to say… I would try to get a feeling for who he is, inside of everything that he’s saying because people don’t always say who they are. I don’t think I could reach that person but that’s what I would try to do.” From Jane Goodall’s Masterclass
There’s just no question about it, Biden will do far more to address climate change than Trump.
2. The President of the United States must move the country toward the political center.
The divisive behavior of President Trump does not surprise because division is precisely his strategy.
Trump will only cause the political and societal trends toward extremism and division to accelerate.
Trump is often described as the most divisive President. There are countless examples of his divisive rhetoric every single day: the way he mocks opponents and stokes fear of immigrants; how he essentially equates all attempts at fighting for racial justice as attempts to erase our history and turn the US into a communist country; his refusal to condemn white supremacy.
The divisive behavior of President Trump does not surprise because division is precisely his strategy.
It’s possible Biden may ease the trend toward the extremes. There’s no chance Trump will. He will only make it worse.
3. The President of the United States must acknowledge and address racism and economic inequality.
If you’re afraid of communism, then Trump is your worst enemy. Ignoring the growth in inequality will only cause more people to gravitate toward the false promises of communism.
To Trump, racism and inequality register only as issues of law and order and how well the stock market is performing. Don’t we all wish it were that easy?
Trump couldn’t even get himself to condemn white supremacy at the first so-called debate. He has never uttered any words of empathy for the discontent the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor have caused. He doesn’t look to unite, but to offend and bully.
As to economic inequality, Trump’s tax bill is expected to widen the growing wealth and income gap even more. In addition, Trump has done nothing to improve access to affordable health care, which is essential to lift individuals out of poverty.
If you’re afraid of communism, then Trump is your worst enemy. Ignoring the growth in inequality will only cause more people to gravitate toward the false promises of communism.
To make any kind of progress in confronting racism and addressing inequality, Biden must win.
In short…
The United States stands no chance against these three issues with Trump in office. How do we get him out of office? By voting him out! And the only choice we have to vote him out is for Biden to win.
